Coral's just arrived! Newb has questions

I finally have corals!!!!!!!!!!!! However I'm concerned that they stink, is that normal for corals that are shipped?

Also how do you acclimate them to the light? I know I should place them on the bottom but do I leave the lights on at first or wait a few hours?

The corals I received are two different zoas, one clove polyp, one austera sps, and one surf n turf sps.

This is irrelevant, but nice avatar haha. I thought about makin one with happy gilmore (where he misses a putt, and gets right next to the ball)
"This is your HOME! Are you too good for your HOME!?"
But instead of a ball and hole, it would be a clown and nem. Get it? lol
That's what I was thinking when my clowns wouldn't host, but they are now, so it's all good.

Man I hate work lol

I don't think they should smell bad. After acclimating them to the water, I'd wait a few hours before turning on the lights

That's how it feels when clowns don't host for sure, maybe I should say that to them lol :) . Thanks for the advice, I'll def. keep the lights off for a few hours.

haha, oops, meant to write 'don't host'

The way I see it, you're gonna have to turn the lights on sometime. You might read up some more tho, I'm still new myself

Thanks, I have a solaris so I think I'll just turn the light level down and slowly bring it up between now and tommorrow.

I'm also wondering if I can use aquarium putty to mount one of the sps I received that isn't attached to anything? I don't have any super glue, I figured all the corals would be mounted.

I would let them sit in the water 30 min. Then place them on the bottom of the tank till they open, could be a day or a week or more. Then you can move them up to middle area. Once they open there you can go higher with them. Enjoy your new corals I know I always do.

Well the corals have now been in the tank for an hour and the sps look great!!! The surf n turf opened it's polyps within a few minutes and the zoos are slowly opening. The cloves look like poo, which is suprising to me cause I thought those were the toughest of the corals I bought. I'm slowly increasing the light level on my solaris and as I do the corals polyps open up more, I'm so excited !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Should I pay rent or buy more corals? Hmmmmmmmmmmm. lol

Cloves are sensitive shippers they may take some extra time.

Thanks, that's good to know. Right now they're real limp and droopy so I was starting to wonder if they just didn't survive shipping, but I'll give them some more time.

I took some pics, they aren't the best quality and not all the polyps are fully extended but it gives you an idea of what I have. I will post updated pics once the corals have settled in and fully opened up.
