Hi there,

I recently received two new 250w Coralvue 10ks from you. On start up they appeared really dim, and very blue. So much so that I thought that they were similar to my radiums in color (they are 400w)

Thinking more on the subject, I checked out the piece by Sanjay Joshi in july 2004 Advanced aquarist. From the spectra he shows, the 10K and the coralvue 20K have the same spectrum, nut the 12 and 15k are very different.

Are coralvue selling a single bulb as both the 10 and 20K. There is no way these are 10ks.

I also see the same in the 400W, they are very blue.

Thanks

Paul.

Hi Paul,

Unfortunately the kelvin ratings put on lamps by manufactures are not the most accurate at times. The 10k 400CV does appear to be a little on the blue side for a 10k lamp, however once it is going it does seem to burn in pretty white. How long have you had it running for?

Hey Jeremy,

its been running approx 20hrs, so it is early days, but it is pretty dim.

the spectral comparisons really are very similar to the 20k bulb.

They are very similar, however they do look different from each other when running. I would give it time to burn in, as it will whiten up some. When you are saying it is dim, what are you comparing it to?

well, compared with the iwasakis, which I know are way brighter, but even 440w vho, mixed of sunlight and actinic blue. I would have thought having two 250W MH as close to water as 440VHO should appear brighter.

The deep blue doesnt help, if it whitens up I assume it will look brighter.

I will give them time and see how it goes.

P.
