You might want to consider two heaters instead of one. This compensates for heater failure since the odds of both malfunctioning at the same time are unlikely. Also, and I'm sure you've thought of this, but I would have an engineer establish that your upstairs floor will hold the weight. 300 gallons alone weigh 2,500 lbs., plus the weight of the rock, glass, sump, etc. Really adds up.

yes, I have 2 smaller heaters on the way. Where did you see that I only had one heater? Good eye!

Where did you get 300 gallons from? it's a 75 plus let's say 20 in the sump. 95x8=760 plus whatever else, let's say 1000. The tank is set up across the beams, so hopefully it's ok. If I'm missing something pls let me know!!

Yeah there you go,just keep an eye on it now for the next few days.

I stand corrected on the size of your system. After you read the first few hundred threads, the details become sorta vague.

imcosmokramer,

How tall is your tank?
I was asking about your light fixture, the 250w version, and some were saying it was too much wattage for a 16" tall tank, is yours taller than 16"?

:(

nothing yet.....

It's got tiny bubbles up to about an inch away from the top. I had to adjust it again today since the bubbles were only coming up half way through the tube. It's just white bubbles, that all....

I'm not sure my tank every went through a cycle either. I put 50lb of LR that was delivered from the LFS and then put directly into my water. I tested one week in, two weeks in, then every couple of days. ammonia has been at 0 this whole time. (Maybe I needed to test everyday during the first week).

Today:
ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 20

I'm in no rush, so I'm still waiting.

Ok, so thats a 120 gallon...ok gotcha.

So your's is 20" deep, so you think the 250w light fixture was good for that and if you ever decided to go to 90 gallons etc?

Could I say the same thing if I got a tank that was similar to yours only shorter but deeper, say 48x24x16? (I'm being told the same fixture you got only 150w would be good, but what if I go to 90 gallons?)

In other words, my tank might be shorter, so they are saying Id only need the 150w version of the Outer Orbit fixture...and 250w would be too much light for that short of a tank?

Which one? Or both? I know they are saying the 150w should work fine, but what if I wanted the 250w, incase I did grow out of the 75gal, to a 90gal? Will the 250w hurt my shorter 75gal?

well, you could always raise the 250 off of your tank. If you are thinking of possibly growing, I'd get the 250, the price difference in negligible. However, why not get a bigger tank now?

Well thats my thinking, a 90gal, depending on the budget and the price I can get it for...still shopping it.

I started looking at nanos, then decided 75gal was a good starting point for me, now you all have me talking 90gals!!!

Chris, there was a girl named Jackie and a guy named Josh.
I happened to be there the other day and they do not ship tanks or stands.

blk - I think the skimmer is starting to work. It's beginning to have brown/green bubbles; not many. The collection cup is filling up with green liquid....maybe a 1/2 inch of it. The bubbles turn into a foam at the top of the tube.
