Cosmo's 75G Build Thread

That sounds like a great plan. Here's what one guy did with a corner tank that had a small stand:

The return pump plumbing went over into the corner stand. He stored various tools and additives down there.

I liked how he made the cabinet. The top flipped up for full access. It looked nice and made his wife happy. Plus he had a work surface next to the tank, which is always handy.

Thanks Marc.

i will have a similar setup, but I'm still considering the depth of the stand. I only have about 14" between the tank and the wall. On the other hand, i can make two pieces: one in the corner (narrower, and will be used for storage), then a deeper stand that will house the sump. Still thinking about it.

You have a great tank. Hope mine gets there eventually. Here's how I did my main 75g setup. Left stand houses ato, & kalk drip. Right stand houses CA reactor, ballasts, misc. stuff.

Lights were off when took pix.

Great looking tank kramer! That is a nicely done 75G... :)

ty JD, it's still a work in progress, but it's coming along.

Tazz, I really house you added the two pieces. It gives your system a nice symmetrical look. Post some more pictures here when you have the lights on. How is your RK2 doing? Mine is about to be replaced.

Click on the red house (homepage) & go under 75g. Lots of pix there, plus some of other builds. Rk2 has been working Great for me. Currently I'm taking down 55g & moving corals to 40g. being built in garage, & fish to 75g. in living room. Been fighting red cotton candy algae in 55g. for over 2 years, & have given up. Going to nuke 55g. with bleach after corals & fish are moved, then upgrade 55g. to another 75g.
Your tank looks great, & hope to get mine there eventually, but little issues here & there have kept mine from thriving. Currently my tank is lit by 2 x 250w 10k de mh & 2 x 54w actinic T5. I'm still debating if its too much light. Anyway, keeping an eye on your tank, & seeing what a successful tank looks like & taking notes here & there.

tazz, how high are your lights above the water. If you think it's to much light, you can always raise them and get better spread.

From glass uv shield to top of water is 11". Can't raise, would have to make another hood. Just bought these xm 10k bulbs a month ago, & am not sure I like them yet. Had 14k hamilton bulbs in before, which were ok, but no growth really. Will stick with 10k for a while since they are new, but am considering 20k after them.

I use 14K Hamiltons and my lights are 6" above the water. I think I'm getting good growth. Not as good as with the Ushio 10K, but I didn't like the way my tank looked with them.

My bali slimmer fell into a colony of purple deaths last night.

I woke up and was like "nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooo".

I moved it back to it's spot and surprisingly the pd's are back and open.

I need to chop up that colony and mount it somewhere. It's just growing to fast.

With the help of a friend, I added an Aquatic Systems Design CaRx 6.18.1 last night.

My alk went up from 7.4 to 8.3 overnight. My Calcium is at 420. I'm probably going to test it again tomorrow, and then maybe raise it manually.

Have had my Koralin Ca Reactor sitting & waiting to be hooked up for quite a while now. I'm prob. gonna hook up myself, because I have asked several fellow local reef club members for help to no avail. My Alk has always been low, & have tried many different things to raise it. Next two things to try are switching from Tropic Marin Pro salt to Seachem Reef salt, & bite the bullet & follow Reefkeeping magazine's guide to connecting reactor, & hope it doesn't crash my tank.
Some good news though....Picked up 80g RR tank/stand, light, filtration sump, etc on Craigs List locally for a STEAL. ($200) 2nd 80g build soon. WOOT. Have been waiting for quite some time for a deal like this.

quick update on the CaRx.

ALK is now at 9.0

Also, I use kalk in my ATO so my pH was always high. Not the CaRx is keeping it in check. This will probably not be an issue going forward, as most hobbyists report low pH when using CaRx.

Tazz - lmk how the whole process is going, and shoot me over a link to you new build thread when you get one going.

oops, I made a mistake in my last post. I wrote "Not the CaRx is keeping it in check" but I intended to write NOW the CaRx is keeping it in check. To late to edit the post.

My BPM is at 21 and DPM at 54 now with a Ca of 430 and Alk of 8.3

I will test again tomorrow and see if I need to increase my Ca with part A.

alright, still tuning this thing.

This morning Ca was still at 430 and alk at 9.3. I added 60ml of part a.

At 6:50 PM ca at 450 and alk at 11. I turned down the bubble count to 12 pm. Marc, if you're reading this, what this the correct step?

Also, pH is still high 8.4
