I just put my new lights on my tank. I was running 150w 14k phoniex, but just upgraded to 250w w/lumenmax elite. I mounted the 250w about 4x's higher than the 150's were. 150s 4 inches above tank new 250w 11 1/2 inches. I just noticed these two spots come up on my my cap. But I only have had the new lights running for about 2 and a half hours. I guess they might of been there before but than what does it look like???? Thanks

I noticed there are about 6 of these spots on my monti cap and 3 on a green cap I have aross the tank.

Although likely unrelated to your present issue that cap looks to be dangerously close to that hydnophora.

yes it is thats why its not perfectly round and comes to a little square I had to take out of the side.

I had a hynophora once, and was shocked when I checked it out in the middle of the night and saw sweepers like 12" away form the coral. Wicked nasty coral!

mine has not put out sweeper tenticles, only seem those once when polyps grew right up to it than it spread the tenicles all over the polyps. But off track I wanna know what is causing these spots on my cap and no its not the hynophora

In my opinion the hydnophora is too close to the montipora. If it were me I would relocate one or frag one of the colonies. I think it's possible that the hydnophora stung the montipora, leaving the skeleton exposed...

but also my green cap on the other side of the tank with no other coral's around it is doing the same thing??

My thoughts exactly....

Back to off-topic... :-)

Sorry about the hydnophora statement earlier. It was a galaxia that had tsweepers that long. The hydnophora just whacked every acro frag I had that my snails knocked on to it. Needless to say, it went bye-bye really fast.

trueblackpercula explaination please??
If saltcreep falls into your tank and onto a coral it can burn their tissue.

guessing thats it than, cause I was pulling off my lights and moving stuff around and there were salt creeps on my lights and holder.
