Could someone tell me what this is?

I'm hoping Leash 44 does well with the anemone and grows it out for us to get a positive i.d. on it.

Me too! For the eleven years I worked in the field h. Aurora rarely ever popped up in the order lists. Sometimes from Red Sea and a few times from Sri Lanka but never received them alive so I quit trying altogether. When crispa, malu, gig and bubble always shipped pretty well.

Though if it is an aurora it's going to need some mega lighting.

.

There is still no positive ID on this anemone.

Instead of ridicule why don't you take a minute to tell me the difference? This goes for both of you :hammer:

There are such slight differences between some of the anemone's just like the tapered tip of the BTA as opposed to the blunt tip of crispa or malu. If you really take a look at this anemone the way it's bunched up in places does resemble the rock anemone.

So stop being a couple of dirt bags and help a fellow reefer out that wants to learn the difference in the anemone's. I have asked that question more than a few times since I've been a member here. :rolleye1:

Whoa, not sure a little "ribbing" warrants name-calling (although "dirt bags" is admittedly mild), and one has to be prepared for it if they continue to offer up incorrect ID's. There is plenty of info out there (and here) on basic ID characteristics, although some nems seem to exhibit confusing traits on occasion, and stressed nems can exhibit morphology not normally illustrated in various sources.

You did not initially ask about differences, but offered up an example that was clearly wrong - there is no shame in that (it is "just the internet"), but no need to become defensive either... :)

I would have narrowed it down to either H. aurora or H. malu, with the edge to the former, but could not go further until it settled in (hopefully). I wish the OP luck with it.

pGoing with H. Malu; doesn't look bleached necessarily to me. One of my favorites. That the OP asked what it was after purchase does not inspire great confidence  I would not let it roll around the tank.

Dirt bag? Speak for yourself buddy. I don't post on ID threads and give my opinion unless I'm certain I know what I'm talking about, unlike you who loves to post false info or pretend to know what your talking about.

No I didn't actually ask about a difference but I did ask about it's likeness to a rock anemone as a question not a statement. I wasn't looking at tentacles I was looking at the shape of the anemone. To me the way it's bunched up appears to be very similar to a rock anemone.

I have no clue on carpets and most of the time when I am posting on them I say what I think it looks like to me. Maybe I should reword my post?

Funny how nobody else is ever wrong LOL Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks, kind of thing is how it hit me.

Also like you say when many nems are stressed they don't look anything like what they are. Case in point, this one.

I'm sorry for the dirt bag comment :o

I took back the dirt bag comment and apologized for it, but I don't pretend to know what I'm talking about. Sure I am wrong sometimes, who isn't? Or are you so perfect that you never make mistakes?

I try and help out whomever I can and am always willing to at least try. Too many new people join this site and nobody even tries an attempt to answer their questions. Well at least I try. Too many new members don't get answers to their questions and leave the site.

Also, I said what I did above as a question not a statement. To me it very much appears to be a rock anemone. Again what I said was said as a question.

After looking at a few pictures, I do think that the anemone is an H. Malu.

The tentacles are slowly bubbling up. I will take another picture when I get home tonight!

Yes the cream colour and the pink purple-ish tips is typical of h. Malu.... But what pokes my interest and what is really funky about your nem is that the striped bubbly tentacles and the stripes around the mouth is h. Aurora characteristics!

Yes ginpang, you are right! man what a mystery! I will post some more pictures tonight! Hopefully he's happy when I get home :P

Thanks Marc. it seems that I may not have been so wrong with my ID. Now this makes for two of those supposed that I was so wrong with my ID of anemones.

Maybe instead of attacking or ridicule of someone possibly being wrong you could extend the effort of teaching instead?
