Could these kill us?

After our first post we learned quite a bit. Frankly, we were quite unaware that some corals could kill us. Thanks for pointing that little tidbit out to us!

Before we knew to ask questions, we added several species of corals to the tank from a few different stores. Nobody warned us, and all handled these guys without gloves. Should we be concerned with any of them?

I assume the candy cane is pretty benign, but I'm not sure of the others. The hammer had a long hair like thing coming out of it, and my daughter almost pulled it out thinking it was one of hers that found its way into the tank and got stuck. Stinging tentacle perhaps? I think I read that somewhere.

Thanks again for the help keeping us safe and informed!

Working on the photos, is there a photography threads somewhere as well?

The only ones you should really be concerned about doing damage to people are the Palythoa toxins, aka Palytoxins, produced by the bigger polyps in the first picture. The rest of the corals will only sting you at the most. My recommendation is to use gloves any time you plan on handling any of them, just in case (and to protect the corals).

If you have space for a media bag in your setup, I would highly suggest running activated carbon. It will remove a lot of the toxins from the water column of the tank, and will also help make your water color-free and very clear.

Also, I would suggest keeping all of your posts to one thread. It makes it redundant and difficult for us to help you, since we don't all see all of your submissions. You've posted 3 already. Pick one of them and just add pictures to that thread as you have more questions.

Thanks. Didn't think about adding the additional pics as a comment. Accustomed to facebook with another hobby, and additional photos are very cumbersome to the post to the original thread.

Also, I did a little research on the yellow polyps in the first pic and apparently there is a lot of disagreement / confusion. Some sites claim they're palythoas. Others state they are simple polyps. Still more claim their actually anemones. Interesting addition, in any case.

Be warned, they are prolific. You may find them less interesting when they are covering everything.

Can they kill you? Simple answer is YES, technically anything we encounter can will use if used improperly. By touching them tho, No. Just be careful when dealing with Zoa though. Poly-Toxin is no joke.
