Couldn't help myself - new eel.

I swore I was only going to keep the small picasso but then I saw this little snowflake eel with a cool pattern so I had to get it. He has actual "snowflake" looking spots on him. Most other snowflake eels I've seen have more like "bands" around them. He also has a lot more white than others I've seen. He was only $20.

Sorry the pic is blurry and for the flash, but here it is!

He's been eating like a big pig from the first day. I've been offering him food everyday, squid and krill, and he takes it.

I'll back off feeding him so much soon, I just want to get him going.

He has already found his way into my sump, which is a Tidepool II.

How he got past all those trays I'll never know, but he did.

So what do you think?

How long has your tank been up? Just asking cause your sand is soooo clean.

Snowflakes are GREAT fish! And I agree, the ones with more white on their bodies are the nicest. He's likely to look even better when he gets bigger.

A good match for a Picasso too. They should get along well. Congrats!

My tank has been up about 6 months.

The sand is Estes Marine Sand. It's not Aragonite.

It stays clean and doesn't cloud up when the trigger or eel dig in it. And triggers and eels love to dig.

I do have a Starry Hermit Crab. That's what's in the shell in the pic. He's as big as a baseball and he is constantly digging through the sand looking for treats. He can dig about 1 to 1 1/2 inches deep.

Does your picasso bother the hermit? If I was a trigger, I would be trying to snap at those eyestalks or antennae all the time.

In the first pic, look at the size of the trigger compaired to the size of the hermit's shell.

Yes, the trigger tries to pick at the crab, but the crab fends off the trigger pretty well.

I'm sure some day the trigger will win, but it won't be any time soon!

Careful with that hermit, mine got pretty aggressive and I had to get rid of him.

Fish dont like to sleep at night when there is a crab like that around. If one of them gets weak or careless, he will eat them alive.

nice trigger and nice eel are they in the 75 gal.
thats true about the crab but they are really efficent at keeping the substate clean keep it well feed (will eat any thing ) and they don't seem to bother fish.

Can't find one ?!? Man that's got to be one of the most common fish available. You musn't have very good and/or many stores in your area?

You need to move to New England. I could walk into any one of 5-6 stores in the general area and they would all have at least one Picasso, sometimes several. Seems odd, as you are closer to where they are from than I am.
