Coverting F/O tank into Clown/Anemone tank

I'm planning to convert one of my tanks into a Clown/Anemone tank. It's a 30 gal. eclipse tank. I'm thinking upgrade the lighting and filtration to 2-65 PC light and a canister filter. Iw ould also add some more LR. Sell the existing Eclipse hood. What do you think? I would only like to have a huge anemone and a paired clownfish. Please let me know what's the best anemone to have. Something big and hardy. How about clownfish? Any recommendation?

sounds good but i would deff. get a skimmer,at least a prism,something

i would get a bubble tipped or a rose and occillaris or perc clowns if u are looking to possibly breed or skunks or tomatos if not

What would be the best skimmer to get? Something that is not hang on or needs to be in a sump. Is there a skimmer that can hooked up with a Canister filter to make a close loop. I don't think I'd be adding a sump.

If it's your first anemone try a rbta or gbta. Ask around if anyone has a clone for sale because they are hardier. It's recommended to wait about 6 months to a year for the tank to stabilize before you add an anemone, but if you are taking water and liverock from an existing system, you don't have to wait, just make sure you don't get a cycle. You don't need to spend any money on a skimmer either. I've been skimmer less for almost a year without any problems. I do regular 10% water changes about 1-2 a month. If you have any powerheads in the tank make sure they are covered too, they like moving.

For clownfish if you look for a mated pair be prepared to pay a lot of money $60 or more. If you are not in any rush to have a mated pair you can buy two tank raised clownfish and they will most likely pair because they are juveniles, also in my opinion they are alot healthier, but sometimes it doesn't make a difference because they get exposed to diseases when they are being held at the wholesalers and at the fish stores.

Hardy: BTA, of any color, or LTA (beware dyed anemones)

Natural wild symbiots to BTA: A. akindynos, A. allardi, A. bicinctus, A. chrysopterus, A. clarkii (Clarkii), A. ephiipium (Red Saddleback), A. frenatus (Tomato), A. mccullochi, A. melanopus, A. omanensis, A. rubrocinctus, A. tricinctus, P. biaculeatus (Maroon)

To LTA:
A. chrysogaster, A. clarkii (Clarkii), A. perideraion (Pink Skunk), A. polymnus (Saddleback)

You are only likely to find the species where I've included common names unless you search high and low. You won't find an A. omanensis unless you have very good contacts with the Sultan.
But in captivity, other clowns will often host with a non-wild match. Many hobbiests have their percula and ocellaris clowns host in a BTA.

Personally, I think a nice LTA with purple tips and the pink skunks would be an awesome combo.

one point of advice...

cover your intakes - a shredded anemone is no fun for anyone...

*comes from experience... :(

you said "a paired clownfish" - does that mean a clownfish that is hosting in the anemone? or does that mean a pair of clownfishes?

for hosting, you will need to be very specific about the kind of anemone and the kind of clownfish. the anemone's that are most likely to host a clownfish are some of the most difficult to keep.

having said that, clownfish have been known to host in frogspawn, hammer corals, and various other anemone looking things...

I'm looking to get a pair of clownfish.

Now, the first thing I would do is to sell my Trigger fish, kill some aiptasias, then sell my year old Eclipse 3 Hood/lighting..So if there's anyone who has dibs on my Trigger and Eclipse, please lt em know..

Next would be to get a PC light set with stand and some LR and a new canister filter...
