Cove's 220 Gettin under way

I plan on adding a switch, this was a quick and positive fix until i can get a float switch i like. No one in town had a switch that did what i wanted at the time. Also for now it keeps my attention to maintenance on a high level. Its too easy to slide over to the slacker side. And if i get a breather from kids and house stuff i will do some experimenting with simulated power outages. I'm thinking it has to do with water level in the sump and how fast the skimmer fills. Or possibly how wet i have it set to run. Its something i will look into. At least i won't be doing the emergency water changes at midnight!

I was fortunate to have well mixed and heated SW standing by. Something i plan on continuing to do, or at least heated RODI water. I've got a Mag 12 that i can add a venturi to for a fast mixer!

it just seems strange that is happening during power outages. when I lose power, excess water just goes into the sump.

I also have been having frequent outages and when my power comes back on my skimmer freaks out and blows the lid right off my ER but settles down in about an hour ....I think its all the waste selling at the bottom of the skimmer and goes stagnent then gett turbo blasted and you get extra foamy water istead of dry foam ...im no expert but thats how I rationalized it to myself...lol

That could be as the skimmer holds about 5-7 gallons of water in the base at all times. plus all the crud that was on its way up falls back down and collects. Also if the power is only off for a couple mins it does not occur. Like i said i will be running tests on it plus i will add a switch soon, probably the one Jeff had suggested. I figure when i order the ballast for my frag tank i will order the switch.

Hey Sean how did that sock work out for you?

Ok the thread made it all the way to page 5 before i managed to update it . So here are some pics of whats new and growing.
First is a full tank shot. I'm still fighting with the cam for good quality, but we all know pictures never do justice to in front of the glass.

I'm looking forward to the frag-a-thon this coming friday as i have room to spare.

the sock works really well I had to soak it a few times overnight to get it stop making my skimmer blow it top off but all in all its a nice additiion...thanks

Speeddemonlsr, all the frags are showing polyp extension, and the tricolors tips are a bright purple-blue. Its tough to get a picture as my fish think they should be in every shot. I try again later tonight.

hay cove, I think your going to have to have an open house day so we can all come by and see it first hand. It looks fantastic.
