Finally caught this little guy out in the open last night. Just curiuos if he is reef safe or not. Can anyone help?

Click on the picture for a larger version. Not sure yet how to post larger versions. More pictures on that site of him, before and after the one I attached.

Thanks!

Not even all emerald crabs are reef safe. I'd say take him out to be safe or take a chance if you really like him.... or just throw him in the sump.

I've been leaning towards taking him out. He's an elusive little bugger. I think I've found his home now after seeing him last night. I was just curious if anyone could id what kind of crab he is first.

ok i worked for a fish store for a very long time.. he is a wolly bear crab.. he will eat fish if he can catch them and destroy corals and he will get big fast.. and more then likely if u have one u have 2.. they come from live rock and they are tiny until they start to eat things and then they get big enough so u can see them and then they are very hard to catch so good luck to u

Westsider,
It kinda looks like a gorilla crab to me, which is not reef safe. They are usually fuzzy, and have brown or black tips on their claws. Sounds just like dev11's description, probably same crab different name. Good luck!
