crocea bought in April never attaches

Seems perfectly content until I try to put it in the rockwork: then it will move itself back to about the same spot on the sand. It sits in a high light area, and grows...it's added its 4th row of scutes since April, and is brilliant blue. It might have been wild, since it came in with no scutes at all.

I've always secretly felt like a bad clam owner since it has never attached. I move it to dust [scrape algae nearby, every few weeks] and it never takes offense: it just blooms right out to suck in the algae. But never produces a byssal thread, either.

Is there maybe a nutrient it needs that it doesn't have enough of? This is my first shellfish.

it likes the spot its in, it does not need to attach itself to anything to be happy. your not a bad calm owner just because it hasnt attached. you may not want to move it as much as you do but, if it doesnt mind then ...hey, whatever. good luck to you

yeah i have/had the same problem with one of my clams.. what i did was put it on a small piece of LR on the bottom of the tank.. it attached itself to that and now i move the rock and clam together... you may want to give that a try....
