Thanks everyone. I got a small yellow acro added to the collection last week.

I'm going to try to get pictures of all the favias this week, so we'll see how that goes.

Chris - where do you get most of your corals?

locals. I actually havent bought coral in a long time. Most of the time I just trade with friends, though I'm on the edge of buying some new stuff just to fill out this tank. either that or drive to dallas to hit you up.

I was going to say the same thing about next time Im in Houston :lmao:

Thanks for the compliments, everybody.

nextwave is saturday....
great place to fill up a tank!

It would have been... but I was in florida to see the Discovery launch. Or at least, traveling home from it.

In less heartening news, when I got home I found the mimic tang dead. No clues as to why. Maybe malnutrition? But that would be weird. I'd had it for about 6 months and it seemed to be rather healthy. A shame, as I know my 2 year old will be asking about it.

Dang Chris, sorry to hear about the loss. :( How bad is the brown algae at this point? I directly associate the death of my lyretail anthias to the brown algae. I think it's a bacteria based algae, cyanophyte, that can effect the gills of certain fish. Strange that it was so sudden but I'm sorry that happened none the less.

The brown algae is not terribly bad, Brett, no worse than the pictures that I've shared to date. The snails are keeping it in check. I may wait another month before adding any more surgeonfish to be safe.

Rob! Thanks for the link. I'll be sure to check in.

crvz, its awsome you got to see last launch to start.

Tank is looking great, i hope i can get find some pieces like that round here.

Then im wondering what electrical equipment you choose to put on "light switchs" to easly flip off. Im having my electrician come wed. or tuesday to hook everything up and havnt decided on this yet.

Here is a link to my whole electrical plan if it helps to see what im working with.

mostly pumps. skimmer, tunzes, returns, vortechs, etc. I will have a few spares, but I wanted the quick shut-off for stuff that moves water. The lights, heaters, fans, and other devices are controlled with just the Apex stuff.

Just finished reading the whole thread. Wow - really awesome job. Love the attention to detail in the lighting and wiring!! You and Drummereef should start an anal reefer anonymous club together!!:spin2:

I am close to ordering a Marineland 300DD myself. Wondering how you plumbed the overflows. Did you stick with the 2 stadards dursos included or mod them somehow? I have read many posts where people said the flow was not adequate and required some form of mod.

I havent plumbing my second return pump yet, so the standard plumbing that came with the tank has been fine. I may have to change it once I get everything fired up.

And thanks for the compliments!

I've been pretty radio silent of recent. I noticed a few of my SPS beginning to recede, only to recognize that the calcium reactor has not been doing much for me. I tuned it in and got my alk from just about 5dkh to over 9dkh this week, so hopefully I caught that in time.

I also had a raincheck from LA for a purple tang, which they (to my amazement) had in stock, so I placed that order today. We'll see how that plays out. That's one of my wish fish, and at the price I was able to get it I'm very much hoping it shows up healthy and lives forever. ;)

cant wait to see that purple tang -they are a beautiful fish

The needle valves on Ca reactors can be tricky, you think you have it set just right and a couple weeks later it is not letting enough C02 past for the reactor to operate correctly. Not sure if mosture gets into the needle valve or maybe some piece of dust but it's something that we have to stay on top of

I supose the new digital regulators don't have the problem
