Cubed & Squared

i've alwyas had nitrate problems even with bio pearls, so i basically stripped the whole sump and started zeo, i keep getting told that zeo will start working, but it isnt... some nutrients are getting stripped, but probably not enough :/ think it will soon be time to start taking fish out :(

Corals look good, but yet again i can't compare to too many tanks tbh :/ and pics don't really show them justice.

Any dimensions of your tank/system? Fish load? I like fish as well, so it's kinda tough to get the balance right :)

I've used Zeo for 2 years, and have no doubt that it will work in your case as well. It does take 2-3 months to really kick in, and depends on how you stick to the method. How old is your live rock? Am asking, because if you have a ton of it, and if its pretty old, there might be a fair amount of nutrients already locked in there.

This tank was started with zeo cycle, but have moved away since its really expensive when you have to import everything. That said, my nitrates are higher now than before, last I checked they were that 4ppm or thereabouts.

Good luck with this

Thanks Mike, I'm soooo tempted to re-position all my corals but I'm resisting. Haven't seen any more AEFW yet

Time to update your thread?

Good to hear.

Its a good thing you found the eggs last time because those eggs would have meant a re-infestation.

Keep up the good work.

That's some super duper awesome news right there! Hopefully after continuing the dipping procedure and scraping those eggs you avoided the re-infestation and got them wiped out for good!

Do you still have them all set up in the dipping / frag tank? Interested in sharing a FTS of the frag tank layout showing how the corals are doing now after all this time of dipping?

I was at my usual go-to LFS the other day picking up an addition to my tank. They had a big bottle of Bayer insecticide on their prep station next to their cheato tanks. I'm still interested in :reading: up on it some. Right now I've been using revive and inspecting with a magnifying glass.

And if you're done with all the dipping... have you settled on an aquascape yet? I'm guessing with your hands in the tank so much lately and no corals in the way, that you're messing about with your rocks again too? :crazy1:

I cannot express enough,my happiness for you not seeing aefw!:bounce1:
Been there twice and i really feel you buddy!

As for the update i promise i'll do so,in the next couple of weeks.

How are the acros doing mate, hopefully still no signs of AEFW.
Tank war hostilities will recommence once we both stop stressing out our acros lol.

Thanks Sahin, so I didn't find anymore, and now I've gotten lazy. Haven't dipped in the last 10 days. Will do so tomorrow with the WC's. :)

Hey Troub, my former Frag tank is now a Refugium. Figured I needed to boost my filtration a bit, and went the fuge route. Let's see how that goes.

To make dipping convenient, both displays look like bloody frag tanks, like so..

and...

I don't get Bayer here, so can't really comment on that. But yeah, I'm itching to rescape and reposition. Instead, thanks to the last bloody clutch of eggs, I'm stuck looking at my "Fragplays" (see I invented a new word :p)

Keep on resisting bello!

Thanks Mike, tomorrow's the next dip, hopefully I won't see anymore. I'm taking it easy with the tanks right now. Not messing around much, and seeing how things go :)

How are things going , Bello? Still fighting the good fight?

Yep...not quite the good fight though. More like Operation Kill the AEFW Bastards!!! Show no mercy!!!

I'm actually looking forward to Tank War hostilities :p. At least things were all doing well at that time, for both of us. See its all your fault. You reduced the Tank War propaganda and now we're both suffering :p.

Acros are ok, some have turned extra pooey, some look exactly the same, a couple have turned pretty neat in lower lighting. I'll have pics later.

And since I've decided to tinker with the tank only after I'm back from holiday, pretty much means that I've left the tank to itself. I'm currently resigned to watching my Fragplays :)

Despite the bastard AEFW and the dipping stress, I can see good colour son your SPS mate. It can only get better.

Dont get lazy now...these next few weeks are critical to success. Get them completely and you are guaranteed success at eradication.

Goodluck. :D

After this is over they'll be right back to the gorgeous sticks they always have been.

Do you have two yellow tangs Bello, when did that happen. I thought you had one yellow tang in one of your tanks....... on the subject of fish because you have half a clue and i have none, i need a bright as hell colorful wrasse to make Sahin vomit with envy - got any suggestions. :) Bare in mind if your suggested fish dies you have to gimme the money you cost me........

I see everything that matters is grumpy, i've gotten used to that too and i have to say it sucks big time so i feel for you mate. If you get lazy and don't follow through with your dipping at least lie and say you did otherwise these guys are going to get stuck into you lol.
On the subject of laziness i still haven't set up the doser or the ATO i bought months back. The WP-40 came today and it looks gigantic - it's now sitting on top of the doser box in the spare bedroom........... nothing good happens fast in reefing they say - nothing at all happens fast in biggles reef.......:p

Thanks Sahin, but I'm really not happy with the way some have turned. The recently acquired pink millie, has just turned poo brown. Some are still ok, some not so much. Just hoping that I can turn things around once dipping is done. Hoping to do another round this week.

Really hope so . I guess the test would be if I can get things back, the way they were.

Yeah biggles, corals are grumpy and so am I :furious:. I actually have 3 yellow tangs, going with 2 yellow in the shallow tank, and one in the deep.

Since the corals are all in poo mode, was thinking about your fish additions.. The Scott's fairy that you guys get is pretty awesome. How about C. Laboutei as well? You could always just forget wrasses and get the C. Colini angel :p. Keep in mind that these damned fairy wrasses like to jump, which is why I don't keep 'em as such.

Nothing at all happens fast in our reefs, unless of course, its AEFW or some other bad crap. Then its lightning quick :furious: :headwalls:

+1000 ... I want more fish... I want more corals... I WANT my lights and canopy done!!!! None of which are happening nearly fast enough! Oh, I also want my YWG to find my pistol shrimp. They've decided to live on opposite ends of the tank right now. :deadhorse1: Everything seems to like and gravitate towards that left end so far. I need some more open water swimmers and corals ASAP!!!

Oh, and my cyano is lightning quick on the bad side right now. So there you have it. Everything good is slow, and CYANO SUCKS!!! :jester:

And thanks for those "Fragplay" pictures. It's just like shopping at my LFS... I'll take that blueish/purple one, in the back left corner, on the tall tower in the center of the first picture. OH, and that green one right behind the yellow tang too! And in the second picture... Do you have any deals on maybe a pair of stag frags over there on that right rack? It looks like there might be a few I want in there

great thread, awesome tank and setup

sorry to read about your troubles..

this is another thread i enjoyed reading, Sahin, Biggles and yourself really made it a fun read...

looking forward to the future of this great system

Bello hows things?

Both you and Biggles have disappeared for a couple of days...I bet you are both doing a sneaky and getting more corals...:crazy1:

I'm on the lookout for a nice piece of Montipora Setosa. I dont think Biggles has any Setosa or I would have bribed that Kevin to snap me a decent frag. :eek2:

How is the AEFW killing going? I hope you took as much joy killing them as they took in eating your acros. :angryfire:

Apologies for the delay guys, I went nuts with the AEFW, and began rescaping....Pics will follow in the next few days

At least the lights are done now Troub. Trust me Troub, if you lived anywhere near me, you wouldn't need to go to the LFS, as a couple of my local buddies are finding out. I've pretty much stocked their tanks for them

I bloody hate cyano with a vengeance. I'd have restarted carbon dosing but for the possibility of cyano returning. Maybe later, a few months down the line....

Thanks Dallas :). I appreciate the kind words. It's been a bit of a mess lately. Unfortunately, things don't look as good as they did before. I was 80% happy with my coral colors before. That's now down to 40% :(. Hopefully, I'll be able to bounce back in time :)

Reefkeeping is often is very serious, hotly debated on sooo many levels. Why not make it fun?:p

Bloody tired is more like it!!! I had my favourite green Caroliniana/Suharsonoi RTN on me with the last dip. That was the last straw. Was fed up with the Fragplays as it is. So dipped them all, and began rescaping......... Not the smartest thing to do...but I'm just fed up.

On a brighter note, I've got tons of Setosa. Would happily send you some, if you've got someone coming to my neck of the woods. Hell, I'd drop it off myself, if you pay for travel expenses :p.

killer tank setup man!

Thanks man :), I'm pretty happy with the way things were planned. Haven't needed to tinker around with equipment much. The battle with coral colors is a different matter altogether. Thanks again :)

Since I do like to post pics, else this thread'll get boring real quick...here's a wild one I picked up. I don't usually pick up wild, but got a good deal on it. It's green, but what intrigues me is the structure. The branches are about an inch plus in thickness. Have no idea on the species, any guesses?

I'm happy you don't lose your reefing apettite buddy,no matter what happens!
Love your attitude!
I'm sure after the rescape everything will go smooth!
