Cubed & Squared

That's interesting Sahin, I didnt know that. My salinity has been a little low @1.024 because of some lengthily fish acclimations. Hmmm... Maybe I'll keep the salinity there. The sps don't seem to mind.

Awesome. I can't wait to see the SPS 100% recovered from the dipping stress. Your corals are going to take off! :)

As long as AEFW doesn't come around to bite me in the.....:p. Fingers crossed :)

That stuff stinks like poo...seriously it does. Urrrrgghhhh I used it to treat my tank of Cyano before. :crazy1:

The only thing with Special Blend is that I recall the bottle stating that the bacteria will survive so long as the specific gravity doesnt go above 1.024...

What's your SG Richard?

Sahin, I have a little experience with MB7 and ZeoBak. IME both need to be refrigerated, else after its opened, and left outside at room temperature, it tends to degrade, and smell like Kevin had a bad day in the bucket :p. So I wonder did you refrigerate the blend after opening or does it not matter?

Similarly, Richard do you refrigerate the blend, or is it not required in your opinion?

I read somewhere that mb7 is an enzyme rather than live bacteria? Not sure if that's true or not. I don't refrigerate the special blend. I actually spoke to the folks from microbe-lift. Very nice people btw. What happen was that I purchased a bottle of sb and when I opened it didn't smell. For a second I though it was a new less rotten formula lol, but the lack if smell prompted me to contact microbe-life and get an explanation. They explained to me that the sulfur smell slows the life span of the bacteria, this is why refrigeration is not needed. Apparently my bottle was bad, bacteria was dead. They replaced the bottle free of change and sent me a free bottle of nite out II as well :)

Excellent info, Richard, thanks for clearing that up

I'm far more inclined to try out the Blend, to support a good company

Yeah Special Blend is meant to smell horrible. If you use it, trust me, your wife will think you crapped your pants or something! Its that bad!

lol...special blend indeed has an unearthly smell!
But it an good product overall.
Conserning zeobak and refrigerator,i think i read somewhere that the first butch(i think i wrote it wrong :) ) needed refrigerating and the ones of the last couple of years not(or a specific production date i can't remember now :( ).Just not to be placed at a very hot place.

Have a nice holiday bello buddy:beer:
I'm sure when you get back things in the tank, will be much better and bigger!
At least that happens when i leave my tank alone:spin3::spin2:

ZEObak needs to be refrigerated

Zeobak is not recommended to be refrigerated read the Zeovit forum if you don't believe me.

I haven't really searched the Zeo forums recently. When I started zeo 3 years ago, the norm was that it had to be refrigerated, and I've continued the same. Works just as well. Given that the damn thing costs sooo much, better safe than sorry :p

Sahin, if my wife can tolerate stinky 'ol me, I doubt that she'll have a problem with that :p

Bello is Kevin looking after your tank while you are on holiday? :hmm3:

Mike and Sahin, I'm bloody terrified about leaving!!!!! For 8 days!!! That's the longest I'll have been away with the new setup!! I'll even settle for Kevin looking after it :worried:. Hopefully, things'll be fine and my system will appreciate my lack of fiddling around with it. I will have someone to feed the tank and fish, but should anything go wrong, I'm in trouble :worried:

Anyways, I tried to stabilize everything, without making any serious changes. I believe the worst thing you can do is make big changes before leaving, even if the changes are for the better, you may not have enough time to see how those changes affect the system.

And while we're at that, my return pump Waveline 10,000dc gen 1 decided to crap out on me. Luckily I always keep spares of vital equipment, so tried out the new Jebao 12,000 dc. Let's see how that goes :)

Good luck buddy, hopefully everything will be fine. Just triple check everything at least 3 days before you leave. BUT MAKE NO CHANGES.

I dont trust all these Jebao pumps and stuff...I'm old school Eheim pump fan. These beasts go on forever and never has one failed on me. I know some people ran their Eheims for YEARS without even cleaning them and they go on running systems.

Thanks Sahin, still bloody nervous :worried:

I hear you on the Eheims, far more reliable and proven, but my problem is that my return goes through the chiller, which in turn is placed outdoors to reduce running electrical cost. So I need enough power to force the water through 30-40 feet of tubing with 8 feet of head height. I need a 7000+ ltr pump for that. I haven't seen a Eheim with suitable specs without draining a ton of power. And Red Dragons are too expensive :p

In any case, if the Jebao fails, I have another new in box Jebao as a spare...Call me paranoid :p

This looks bloody awesome Bello considering what you've just put the corals through. The fish look cool too, what are those two yellow and white ones. I need more fish obviously looking at yours......
Oh btw, did i see you mention somewhere that you have a 24x24x12 monti display running as well now....... i kill monti's so i'll give that idea a miss lol.

I have my fingers crossed for you buddy that everything will be ok when you're away, i'd give you advice but you know how bad i do at three days away let alone eight......:worried:

This just goes to show... you can never be to careful when going on holiday.

Good thing you have all these awesome reefy fish to keep sneaky Scuba Koala spies from robbing you of all your healthy acros! :smokin:

The 3 of the in front have him surrounded!!! And I think they even grabbed him by the fin! :spin2:

:beachbum: LOL :beachbum:

All things are looking good while you're away ;-)

LOL Hahahahaha. I think Biggles was waiting for Bello to go on holiday so he can get Kevin to raid Bellos Acro stock.

Lol nice one Troub :p Bello is going to have a glass bowl full of color over the coming months i'm certain :)

Troub, that was bloody hilarious!!! Hahahahahahaha, brilliant!!!

Lol, he came, he saw....and he ummm.....didn't bother :p. The colors still need a lotta work :).

The yellow and white ones are nice....inexpensive, and possibly AEFW eaters (dunno about that:p), they're Halichoeres Leucoxanthus. I wanted a certain amount of yellow in the tank, without going overboard on yellow tangs :p

The 24x24x12 is an experiment......in abuse . I've concluded that Monti's can handle a lot more pain than acros, like nobody knew that . No idea what my long term plans for that tank is ATM.

The corals look decent, despite the dips and the other dumb things I did at that time. Some still looked rather awful though.

Just need to prepare my pics and update, will do it in SST (that's Sahin's Standard Time....about 3 months :p)

BTW, my positive and chirpy reply implies that the tank MADE IT!!! :blown:

Nice one troubadour!

Bello did you get back from holidays?

Bello did you get back from holidays?

Yep Mike, I just got back a day ago, spent the first day cleaning up :p

Anyways, I'm happy to say that the trip went off fairly well, as long as holiday is concerned :)

It's almost a cliche that people say that their tanks look better in their absence, in my case....it did!! Came back to a healthier system. My employee was left to feed to system and perform basic checks. Apparently my skimmer failed about 2 days into my trip, which he couldn't discern. Thankfully, my local reefing buddy visited, fixed everything and we were all good.

So some pics of my holiday, I visited a holding facility, but unfortunately couldn't/didn't take more than a couple cellphone pics.

And a pic of a "sneaky dirty" mari in my tank, that seems interesting now :p

And a few pics of my holiday :p
