Cully's Double D's

It's alive....ALIIIIIVE!!!!

It's alive....ALIIIIIVE!!!!

Sump is done, water is in. Getting up to temp and adding salt to bring up SG.
once those two parameters are up to snuff, I'll add a piece of established, disease free LR, from a yet to be determined source. I've got all my reincarnated, "dead" rock in there now. Need something to kick the cycle in, or at least seed the non-live rock with a nice innoculum of nitobacter.

Nice! If there is a rubber ring seal on the bottom of the skimmer neck like my sro, a touch of silicone grease will make install & removal easier!

Pascal, thanks for the tip. Is that a readily available product, or a specialty item?

Matt, I've still got some fish at ABC in the back room. My 3 tangs, a purple, a tomini, and a sailfin. Got a couple of random smaller fish too. I was planning on a softie and LPS tank for a minute, but its gonna be mostly SPS with some zoos and LPS in some nooks and cranies.

I'll try to make it a bit more interesting. Lately its been a series of bitter disappointments. BUT, things should be looking up. Setting up a temporary sump and return with the one uncracked tank that remains, and a Mag 18. This way I can continue to cycle while I build the 40 breeder sump.

I'd like to post some more pics but people will get sick of seeing cracked 29 gallon tanks.

Perhaps I should start a "what not to do" thread.

The SRO is looking mighty frothy... good choice. Glad to hear it's coming along! Don't be bashful, when it's done it will be worth all of the headaches! :)

Ok 40B is measured up. Just need to get some glass baffles made and (gulp) drill it :eek1:

Temporary sump is set up. Getting up to temp and skimming. Dialing in the SG!

I do have to drill a siphon break in the temporary return, as I'm currently risking flood. That'll get done as soon as the baby wakes up ;)

I cannot stress the appreciation I have for Dave, @ABCs, removable panel design. It makes access incredibly versitile with this under the tank set up. I HIGHLY recommended it for a tank with this footprint if you can't do a basement sump.

Note the 40A durometer, FDA food safe rubber padding sheets under the Mag 18 and the Skimmer. These were recommended by Mike aka skifletch to reduce vibration and it really works nicely. Doesn't completely eliminate it, but there is a dramatic difference IMO. The Reeflo Snapper external pump I will be running is a bit smoother than the Mag. But overall they're pretty close.
