Water depth is down, but water will flow right over/through it "massaging" the ROX carbon.

It'll probably be clogged in an hour, but what the heck. Took 20minutes and cost me $1.88.....+tax

looks cool! I hate to state the obvious but couldn't you do the same thing with a normal media bag lol

Ok ill come to his aid...at his fragile age and state of mind ....gettin away from kids and wife to do some over achieving do it yourself work on a carbon reactorish thing is very necessary so he doesn't lose his mind. Kinda cool though if you ask me

very kewl!

very kewl!

didja show the wife and kids, too?

They wanna know what you were working on in the basement all winter long.....

:spin2:

You guys should have seen him. He came out looking like Tom Hanks in Cast Away right before he lost Wilson.

Looks pretty cool Mark. I'm interested on seeing how well it performs. Keep us updated.

Media bags always wind up in a clump somewhere. With water at the appropriate level, it flows gently through it and it stays in place. My sump is 18 inches wide so flow is a lot less than a 12" wide tank.

It's just 2" PVC with 2" PVC caps on either end. One is loose so it can be removed for media change. Keeps it spread out and available for even exposure to water, as opposed to a bag in a clump.

I use a fish net in a few sumps. Just fill a net with Gfo or carbon and fit it between baffles. Water passes though and it take 30 seconds to swap out.

I like the idea,in my opinion it is better than nets or such it forces the water to a longer more prolong contact with the carbon because of the cylindrical design which in turn can be more effective at every pass of the water. Although it may exhaust the carbon or media quicker, I think the result is more effective elimination of impurities in the water.
Just my 2 cents

Part of the goal was zero energy consumption. When I use a filter bag, I'm certain it's not the same exposure in my particular set up. I've used them with success in other set ups. Trying to utilize all the tricks I've learned on this one, solo set up.
