I use a fish net in a few sumps. Just fill a net with Gfo or carbon and fit it between baffles. Water passes though and it take 30 seconds to swap out.

You can't massage with nets, just saying

Any way you could make it spin with water movement? Sort of like a bio wheel type filter. I'd think this would prevent clogging a bit and keep the carbon a bit more free flowing.

That was a consideration. I wanted to see just how much the flow agitated the carbon. Too much agitation would/could lead to carbon breakdown. The added motion of the entire tube rotating might be more than I'd personally desire. So far it looks like its tickling the ROX just right

Seems to be working as planned. If I can get it to stay unclogged for 3-4 weeks at a time I'll consider it a success.
