Does anyone here know what these growths are on my TB LR? This first pic shows these clear upright growths that somewhat resemble stalagmites !:)

And in this second pic, there is a green sort of Polyp growing in amongst the algae. Any ideas what it might be?

Can't belive all the new growth! I'm discovering new things every day. Simply mesmerizing.
Can't wait for part 2!:)

None of us have been able to identify the stalagmite looking growths. I looked for a bit but gave up.

The green "polyp" is a type of caulerpa (if you mean the one in the green turf algae). I can see the runners with roots on it. It's one of my favorites, but the sea urchin and crabs took care of it long ago.

Don't you love the red turf algae? It's so colorful

Oh! Caulerpa! That's cool! Some of it is very pretty. I have heard of a couple varieties that tend to go Asexual and create quite a mess. but I'm enjoying all the life in my Tb LR! And am going with the flow.

I love the red turf algae! So colorful. I'm glad it's not only surviving but seems to be thriving so far! :)

As for my Mantis..."If ya can't beat 'em, join 'em"
We've *affectionately* named ours... Snappy....King of the Klackers:lol:

I also found a *very* cool little creature the other night. Couldn't get a pic but he was very cool. I don't think it was a nudi but not sure.He was white....almost clear. not more than a 1/4 inch long. Had antenai and also had tiny little spikes along his back, no shell of any kind. Looked like a miniature little dragon! I hope to see him again.

I had the leaf-type caulerpa sporulate in my tank about a month ago. Didn't seem to harm anything, but man did it make a mess in the water. Tank looked like a fog bank for a couple of days, I ended up removing it.

I'm 99% sure they are a type of sponge. The white tubes that is.

What makes you so sure? They seem more like some type of macroalgae to me...with leucoplasts as opposed to chloroplasts or anthocyanins...

The only evidence I have is they have been the subject of several ID posts in the general discussion forum and have always been called a common white sponge that is fairly fast growing. To be honest, thats the only basis I have, so its like saying 'wikipedia said so' lol.

Clathrina sp. of Leuconia .. possibly...
