ya I working on resizing them now if i can figure it out. I just got back from aquascaping my friends tank. He says he loves it. Any tips on resizing?

Hey Conda - looking good! I'm glad you didn't go with CC substrate. That stuff seems to just trap garbage all the time and critters can't dig through it well enough to keep it clean. You'd have to vacume it all the time. I'm one of those dumb people who want a dsb though, so maybe you should not listen to me

I have southdown (super fine "oolitic" whatever) and it has been tricky keeping the sand on the bottom. I still have a lot of particulates in the water. I get little "dirt devils" that suck it up off the bottom... I have about 4500+ gph from two dart pumps.
You must have spent some serious $$ on that sand. Are you going to try to get some LS from local reefers to seed your tank? That's what I'd do if I were you. Is there a local reef club with a forum? We have a great club in Orlando. People are always willing to share a little LS with someone it seems like.
So what are you going to do for rock? Do you have some curing somewhere? I bought all of my LR from local reefers so had no significant cycle or anything. It has worked out great. Just had to be patient to wait for good rock to come up for sale with no problems like bubble or hair algae etc. (and waaay less expensive as well).
So you have saltwater in the tank I assume since you added the sand? Are your pumps on? Sand staying in place? Need more pictures!

I don't like southdown or DSBs, so I just went with 3 40lb bags of CaribSea Aragonite Reef Sand and two 20lb bags of AragLive in the display and one of each in the fuge--the fuge will be a DSB.
The sand was 26.99 a bag for both kinds, so you can add that up.
The tank is about half full right now because my RO unit is only 50 gpd--no salt yet. Once I get it full, I will put in the salt and start the pumps. I'm looking for local rock like you did, hopefully I will have some luck. If I have to have it shipped in, I'll just cure it in the tank.

so you are adding fresh water to live sand!?!? that will defeat the purpose of getting live sand wont it?

No, I'm not that dumb.
I added the 3 bags Reef Sand to the display and 1 bag to the fuge, the 3 bags of AragLive are still in the bags they came in. I will add them once I get the water flowing and the salinity and temp where it should be.
Right now the tank is a little over half full.

Conda, you can replace all the hose connection fittings with John Guest fittings from Home Depot. They call them Speed Fit connections I think. Unscrew the current ones to find the kind you need, which shoudl be 3/8" thread, with 1/4" inlets. Sorry to hear about your flood, but the picture showed me what I needed to see.
Congrats on the sand in the tank! Man oh man, one day you'll even have water in there. hehehe
Vinegar will do no harm to your tank nor your inhabitants. It lowers pH, but at this stage you don't have to worry about that.
<b>Tigerarmy</b> - I can't imagine two Sequence Darts pushing 3000 (or is it 3600?) gph into your closed loops each. WOW. Plumbing will definitely be challenging, as putting plumbing on the OM device is a project unto itself.
Why don't you get one OM 8-way and one Sequence Dart? You could use two drains to send water to the pump, and have 8 returns with one pump that uses 160w of power. You would use all 10 holes that way.

Well, I got the tank full and the salt added but the Durso's are not working like they were before. I'm getting the flushing affect again and when I tested the power outage, only one drain seems to work when the power came back on. The only time the second drain works (the one with the fuge) is when the overflow fills and causes the flush.
Why would only one drain be taking most of the water? When I first started it they both were working, then the power cutoff seemed to mess things up.
I'm confused.

Yes, you can turn off the return pump, but I wouldn't leave it off for multiple hours.
It sounds like your second durso is vapor locking, and has to force out the trapped air before it can resume. The plumbing going into the refugium section should not be submerged, but rather be half under/half above the water level. This lets the air breathe out of the lines.
Each Durso should have a small 1/8" hole drilled in the cap, and they should be unobstructed.

The plumbing to the fuge is half under and there is a 1/8" hole in each cap. Each pipe entering the sump is about 1" under, maybe less. But when the power is out, they are about 4" under.
I cannot figure out why this is happening. The only thing different is that the Durso pipes are glued now except the cap and street ell which are taped.
I just took the Durso's out because I was worried about this.
