Custom Tank Builders?

AcroporAddict

There is no substitute.
Guys,
I have been thinking of having the "dream tank" built, onein the 450-550 gallon range, and I am trying to decide who to have it built by. I am looking at buying an AGE tank through my LFS, and if I deal directly with the builder, I have been looking at Coast to Coast in New Jersey, or maybe Reef Savvy in Miami. I live in the Atlanta area. MRC is down here, but they build acrylic tanks, and I want a glass or hybrid tank (PVC bottom/glass sides).

GlassCages is outside Nashville, not too far from Atlanta but I don't trust them enough to have them build a tank this large. I have one by them, but the owner is such a tool I don't feel like dealing with poor customer service again.

Any custom builders I haven't listed? I was not not considering west coast builders because of freight charges , but would consider anyone that builds a good tank for a decent price.

Thanks for any help.
Dave

Reef Savvy, craftsmanship is second to none, they are located in FL. My second choice would be Miracles in Glass out of Canada.

You will love the Planet Aquarium tanks! They are the best!

Just got my 150g from them, pvc bottom, split braces so no shadows, extremely well built by a 15 year Oceanic builder, and recently left DSA to start Planet Aquariums. I just switched over to it this weekend, after picking it up on Friday.

DAS. I believe they are in Texas.
Marineland will do custom as well.

What's your budget?
CTC is the most expensive builder I priced. 2300.00 for a 100g cube with standard glass. I will admit they are a work of art though.

Saw a DSA rimless 65 gallon at elegant reef in San Antonio and fell in love, awesome looking tank. Did not know they were in tx

Picked up another Planet Aquarium custom 90g tank today. The only thing different from a standard 90g is the PVC bottom. It is a work of art, and I highly recommend his builds to anyone. However, he deals directly through stores.

Last year, I had purchased a DSA 90g. However, when it was unwrapped at my home from the cardboard casing, the top trim was split open, with a chip in the glass. I took it back to the store, and after 2 months, I could not get a replacement from DSA. So, I took a Marineland 110 xhigh as a replacement from the store. I have not been happy with it due to being used to Oceanic quality.

Oceanic was bought out by All Glass Aquariums, in the which the merger became Aqueon. They wanted to move all operations from Dallas TX to Ohio (?). However, the master builders did not want to go, so they formed Deep Sea Aquatics (DSA). After 3 years, things did not work out, so the builders left DSA to start their own ventures. Armando had 15 years with Oceanic, and 3 years with DSA. He and his crew of 3 guys are Planet Aquariums. His tanks can be purchased from Rodney Hicks at My Exotic Fish & Corals 469-682-8841.

Here are some pics of my new tank, and others at his shop today.

Those guys (PA) make some great looking aquariums. Will for sure purchase my next tank from them in the near future. I just have to decide on what I want now..... decisions, decisions....

went through this thread for some info and I cannot find PA website. When I google it some city aquarium comes up "Blue Planet Aquarium." Anyone have a link??

MRC does hybrid tanks PVC and glass too. I looked into them for a tank build but chose otherwise...

Bump.

I am also in the pre-planning stages (wanting to upgrade in the next few years) and would like something in the 300-400g range built by a reputable company in southeast (or maybe just east) US. Good info here so far.

In the southeast A.G.E acrylic and glass exhibits can't be beat. In the west it was Leemar but Visio has taken the crown in glass (ATM in Vegas for acrylic). And in the east REEF SAVVY hands down. They're second to nobody on planet earth! Then coast to coast and Miracles in glass. Jmo
