Custom wavebox problems

Hello Roger, I have setup my system with a custom wavebox as one chamber of a 2 chamber overflow. The box dimensions are 7.75" x 3.25" x 20". This would be a full gallon of water of displacement if it were to work correctly.

I am using to two 6055's set at 24v. Even on full bore without the 6091 the pumps are only able to displace half the height of the chamber as shown. My only thought is that the pumps are not powerful enough to counter the pressure of the water trying to enter the chamber. The pumps are also very loud.

Please share any thoughts as to whether a more powerful pump may work or if you see other issues. Thanks!

It is not going to work doesn't matter which pump you use in the box. Just my 2cents. You should use it for circulation only

shouldn't the pumps be able to displace the water? Also even when only one pump is on it makes a lot of noise.

Displacing water is only part of the equation. Resonance frequency and pushing water from one end of the tank and the wave action bring the water back is another. Simply placing pumps in an enclosed box anywhere in the tank will not make this happen, even more so with two pumps facing opposite IMO

What type of noise are we talking about? You have to adjust the white knob to make the pump pulse a bit longer than it will show the water level moving up and down inside the box. I think the noise due to vibration between the pump nozzle and the acrylic box..

The noise exists even when just one pump is on in constant operation (without 6091). Jar*Head you have a custom box as well? How did you handle the pump nozzle/box interface?

I use the oring between the pump and the box to reduce vibration noise. The O-ring mount on the nozzle helps big time.. Not sure what type of noise are you talking about. Is the noise come from the pump or the noise coming from the vibration? Why don't you remove the pump from the box and let it run by itself to see if the noise still there. If your pump still brand new, it will have a little bit of noise but not too much...

I don't think it will work, the bull nose tank and the placement defeat the resonance principal that creates the wave. I don't have an answer for the noise without hearing it but I would suspect the mounting is very ridgid and carries the vibration, making noise. We isolate the pumps with rubber pads on the mounts to eliminate this vibration noise.

I believe the noise may have been from lack of those rubber pads. As far as it working I actually got a bit of movement in the tank when the water level was around 1/2 full - any higher and the pumps are not strong enough to displace sufficient water. I would imagine with larger pumps it would work far better. Perhaps 6200s?

I don't expect to get a normal wave, but somethings similar to pushing a gallon jug in and out of the tank - displacing a full gallon of water should effect some movement.
