Cut gigantea

Would either of these gigs look like they have a chance? The top one looked like a haddoni.

I bought these two purples a few months ago. I didn't realize they were both cut.

Here's the top one today 3 months later. Not as bleached in real life. NO longer looks haddoni-ish.



Here's the bottom one. Cut can't get more evident than this.


Then this.


Today. The cut was at about 3 o'clock, where the tents change appearance.


It has bleached a bit. Not sure about this one, and this one looked better of the two, it was the bottom nem in the pic below.

I've been hesitant to post these, I don't think cutting a gig is a good idea. People seem to have trouble acclimating them to tank life, let alone getting them to thrive. 3 of the 7 I have, are cut gigs.

They're in DT. I've had them 3 months, you're right. One is doing better than the other. I think gigs take a long time to really acclimate and look good. I don't expect these two to look loads better, if they ever do, for quite some time. But, I'm surprised the one centered the mouth so well in 3 months. They both have very quick reaction to food, the couple times I've fed them. I don't direct feed mine often, and it's really small. Usually, it's just a dip of frozen Rod's for the filter feeders, but the gigs always puff up when I dip the food in the tank.

I know you know what happened to mine. What's interesting about one of yours is that it appears that the mouth was able to center itself. Can you see its siphonoglyphs? Hopefully yours will last longer. I definitely wouldn't spot feed them.

D-Nak, I have. One has a large AND small "snufalufagus", but the one that's bleached, I can only see one. My blue from a year ago, in my other thread, has both of them now, and has no signs of being cut. That one is quite strong, after a long rocky start. D-Nak, I'm puzzled at what happened to yours. It doesn't make any sense.

For reference, this is 3 of 4. (A friend has the #4, and it's also a cut, and doing quite well) All close to the same size to start. The blue in this pic, not cut, and has made a HUGE gain in health and size, compared to the cut ones. If cutting doesn't kill, it definitely slows them down. The cut ones have hardly grown, only improved in overall appearance. Where the uncut blue between them has over doubled in size AND improved in appearance.

I know it doesn't look like it, but the two on the left are really doing pretty good. The bleached one on the right is struggling, but still reacts to food in the water column, as all of them react pretty good from just "dust" in the water column.

This set-up won't be permanent. Reality is, where they are right now, two is too many long term.

This one I have had for a year now. It had a really rough start. No sign of it ever being cut now. Originally, in my other thread, I have pics of the cut visible. This one was surely cut.

Thanks! Just to be clear to all, I personally, did not cut any of them. Bad timing on my part.... I didn't see Reefaholic's thread until after I posted.... Sorry... I figured I'd just post some pics of my cut gigs from the other threads talking about cut gigs and mags.

I'm pretty sure, because it takes so long for gigs to become "really" acclimated well, anyone that tries to "force split" it, most likely will kill it. IF you look at the two blues, there's quite a difference, especially in person, in the shades of blue the anemone's have. The one I've had over a year has a flourescent appearance to the blue. The smaller blue with the two purples, has a dull/drab blue color to it. Very different to the eye in person. Both "pretty", but very different.

I'm thinking, the best chance for a successful "forced split" would be with one of my gigs I've had longer than a year, the ones that are strong and doing very well.... That's Not happening...

It's a gamble every time that stands a good chance for one or both halves to die.

Agreed!!! Not sure how we can stop the people who is making money out of dead cut Gigs but I'm sure who they are they don't really care.

If you bought one from a LFS report it and bring it back to them. In turn I hope the LFS would be aware and help us to not advocate such thing. Reality is that Benjamin$$$ is too blame. Greed is what this comes down to and we need to somehow initiate the stop of importing these cut gigs.
