How would I go about splitting a Green carpet? Its approx. 14 inches across. Would this be a stupid thing to do or should I just buy another one maybe? Ive want another anemone for another tank for another pair of clowns so I figured I could split this one. Will it kill it possibly?

So im getting mixed thoughts about this...Some people say yes others say no..I guess its basicly up to me in the end. I just need from others who have experienced this or know people who have had success in doing this. I really wouldnt want to totally kill both parts of the creature after I cut it but I want another one and cutting away seems like a good idea to me. Mostly I see that this is not a good specimen to split. So maybe I will rethink this and not do it... *sigh*
There's a thread on the DFWMS forum about someone doing this several months ago. The first one he cut is still alive, but hasn't eaten food since, and part of the cut can still be seen. Not that I'm an expert, but I wouldn't cut carpets until I had seen more people with positive results, as with BTA's and cutting. When an expert like Phender loses a carpet after a cut, I know it's way out of my league. Still feel bad about your loss Phil.
Who is saying yes? Fragging can be very successful with some species, but to do it with a species that doesn't reproduce assexually to begin and where the survival (based on very limited examples) is abysmal, I encourage you not to do it. If you want to get rid of your carpet, I'm sure you can find someone who will take it for you.
