Cutting eggcrate

I tried to search for this information, but no luck.

I have a stupid question . . . what does everyone use to cut their eggcrate? Do you need to smooth the edges when you're done? I want to just make a small frag rack.

I just used a pair of tin snipps, although when I cut it the plastic blew apart. Worked great.

Used a slanted pair of cutter pliers, worked great.

i use a screwdriver and karate chop it, works great but cleanup sucks.

I used a set of wire cutters. If I cut with the plastic back in the jaws, I get no flying pieces of plastic

I've used snips, Band saw, and a Table saw.

I like the table saw the best

Reciprocating saw, clean up and hanging pieces with a pair of pliers.

That is pretty much how I do it too.


If I need to be a little more precise I will use my dremel -- just protect your eyes, that stuff hurts.

Hack saw.

Scissors, close to the edge of the square usually leaves it flush. Do it outside or over a big trash can... it'll make an absolute mess.

Wire cutters, and cleanup with my Dremel tool if the edge needs to be smooth.

Thanks so much for the ideas. After looking at this I went into the garage and used a pair of hedge/small branch trimmers. It worked and also did spit out a few small pieces, but it wasn't too bad.

I use a large kitchen knife.. One good whack it it will cut through 12" of it. Then I just break the extra pieces that stick out with the same knife.

If the extra is long you can use your thumb to make a clean cut.

Also used a dremel. Cut through like a hot knife through butter, but be careful not to leave it on one piece too long or it starts to melt. Not that I think that would cause any problems.
