what happens to it just stays and prevent that part to grow if i leave it?

one reason i want to cut it off is because htere are hairy white stuff on it growing

Birdsnest is super easy to cut, just some scissors is all you need, I have used those soft coral tissue scissors on birdsnest and montipora setosa before.

My birdsnest corals are hard as a rock...I have to use a rotary tool to cut through them...I would just leave it and let it regrow over the dead ends...

I just snap it off with my fingers, or some pliers.
Since the tip is already dead, there's not much you need to worry about.

I used scissors and it worked very simple and easy.

I do have one branch that the very very tip is dead, will new life grow over it or that dead tip will prevent growth on that branch?
