My Maroon clown does this thing all the time where he swims down to the sand and kicks up a bunch of my fine sand with his tail fin. What is he doing? is this something that is common with maroons?
My clarkii used to do they same thing. He would also do this thing where he would "swim" against the current, but he really just stayed in the same spot.
Happens more often than not, seems to be one of the more common clown behaviours, they will often do while manipulating their anemone or clearing a site for pre spawning. I recently sold mt gsm pair because the female was so insistant with this behaviour, I had a wrecked sand bed and a cloudy tank.
My Tomatos have done a fine job of recreating metor crater around their GBTA. I've thought about moving the BTA's rock to mid level on my live rock to see if that elps.
This is normal. I found placing a while tile just below the sand surface helps. They will be come satisfied once they have dug all the way to the tile. Otherwise you may expect them to dig a big hole to the bottom of your tank
My fire clown did the same thing and he was hosting a rose BTA 2 ft above the sandbed. I finely took him to the LFS as my coral in the area wouldn't open because of all the redecorating that was going on.
my clarkii does this often, but last night after i had shut all the lights,i went back in the room, and he was asleep on his side in the hole he had just dug, today he is in my condilactus anemone, for the first time since i bought it
My maroon female does the same thing, it appears to me to be looking for food, the more I feed her the less she digs. I ended up burying small rocks (but bigger than she can move, because she will try) barely exposed in the sand, this works well for a deterrent.
