Cyano/Red Slime Bacteria

Yes, you need to do all the above in regards to keeping nutrients down from water changes to makeup water, rinsing frozen foods, stirring up your sand, toothbrush the rocks and siphoning out the mats of cyno. To keep it in check, use Special Blend.

Mutant Chia Pet

Mutant Chia Pet

cyano is not that tough. Suck it out, increase your flow in the areas that it is growing and do some more water changes. Will disappear after the tank matures.

Try getting rid of this stuff:

This stuff over took my 75. I cooked the rock for three months. I just put the cooked rock in my new 225 and I think the stuff is still alive.

The stuff is tough, and looks like a chia pet that can't be killed.

Help!!!

Purchased a sea hare at Aquahut yesterday, they're a bit ugly. I'll keep you posted on his progress with the cyano. Also picked up a Sailfin Tang while I was there.

Clarification: the sea hare was $19, if you were asking about the sailfin tang they had multiple sizes and the price varied from $25 to $40.

Yes, they had a nice pygmy and some rare wrasses , I think Pete picked a couple up last night as well.

Bad, news....when I came home from work tonight it looks like the sea hare is dead, (still have the cyano of course). The sailfin tang is fine and eating already, (he's in QT). I don't know....I used the drip method acclimation for about an 1:45 before I put him in the tank and he still died.

On another note: increased the flow in the tank from two Koralia 3 power heads to two Koralia 4's. I got them from Koralia for free when they had the recall on the 3's, (for my inconvenience). I had been afraid to use them, thinking they would be too powerful for my tank and blowing the sand all over the place but they seem fine. Hopefully that will help with the cyano.

I saw a good decline in cyano growth after 3 days without lights. also did a 30 gal water change, cut down on the feeding & dropped 75 ml Special Blend today. we shall see monday of it made a dent. I forgot to score a couple of Koralias to up the flow

I was back at Aqua Hut today and told Don of loosing the sea hare in such a short time. He offered another, at no charge, but they were all out. Got a cleaner shrimp instead. Good customer service!!

Dex, they have some venusta (purple masked paracentropyge) and some unusual and rare wrasse. I picked up a melanurus, marginatus, and a yellow streaked fairy wrasse. Regards pete
