cyano still

If you put gfo in a mesh bag in your sump and allowed water to flow thru and that isn't working, then a reactor would be next step. Water changes and good flow are biggies. I have a section in my tank that cyano hangs out in because there is limited flow there. Assuming your using a RO unit also.

How long has tank been running? I just went through a bad episode by it was what I believe was "new tank syndrome". Some reefers don't believe that exists, they think it's lack of attention to detail. It might be, but it's common enough to discuss.

Keep phosphates down. Rinse frozen foods. Don't over feed. Use binding agents. Keep up on routine maintenance. Update old bulbs. It will be self limiting.

I literally did NOTHING different and it went away, just as fast as it came on.

I had a terrible cyano problem, chalked it up to "new tank syndrome" but after 8 months I had enough. Added a TLF phosban reactor running BRS GFO and I have not had a problem since. Just make sure you start using half of what is recommended.

will a phosban reactor help control cyano ive been doing everything possible to rid of this and its still going no where
tell me you have a refractometer, you're running at 1.026 and you have a properly rated and operating skimmer.

These are the first steps to limiting red slime.

Remember- cyano is a never ending problem. All reef aquarists are ALWAYS battling it.

i run at the proper salinity and have a mrc 1 skimmer the tank is a 72 bow front with a 20 gallon sump water changes weekly with ro di water i only feed once every three days and it has been up and running 2 years have had cyano since month 6 or so its never gone away. and the lights are all led about 7 months old light cycle is 8 hours

in other words.. no refracto?
What's "proper salinity" mean.... 35ppt?

Start fighting cyano with refracto and running at SG 1.026

lol no refracto i have the lever style salinity tester that i put to 1.028 ish so i know it has to be close to 1.026 i have been doing it this way since the begining maybe its way off i dont know

IMO get a refracto. calibrate it, and test salinity. can't even begin to explain how inaccurate swing arms can potentially get over time
