cyanobacteria in fuge

I have been dealing with a break out of red cyanobacteria in my tank for the past month or so. I have been cutting back on feedings, doing better with water changes and this seems to be helping. Few days ago I noticed some slime green algae growing in my fuge (on the walls) and I think this is cyano. The fuge is very low flow due to the pod and critter in there.

I have Chaetomorpha in the fuge with a CF 26watt 65K bulb running 24/7. I want to try treating the fuge's cyano by leaving the lights off for a few days.

My question is, how long can the chaeto go with no light?

I think the main cause of the cyano a month or so ago was a few (10 or so) snail dying after I added a new clean-up crew to my tank.
Thanks for the help.

I have had chaeto live for months with just the lighting that it gets from when I walk into the room (maybe 45 minutes every 2 days)

I think you should be good for at least a week of darkness without losing any. Are you going to do the dark posterboard or anything to block the ambient light?
