Have you found it harder to get accurate colored pictures under your LEDs? If so what are your ways around them because those pictures look stunning!

no different than before, you just need to adjust the white balance.
The green slimer was shot with my nikon which took a little white balance tweaking in post. I have the camera white balance set to 10,000k but that's as high as it goes. The plate coral was shot with my leica and surprisingly the wb was spot on using auto.

Hmmm, I wish my camera (Rebel T1i) had a setting where I could input the color temperature in kelvins...

I shoot everything on auto, but then I have to adjust the WB in post processing pretty significantly. I have also had to adjust the tint setting pretty significantly, otherwise the photo is completely dominated by purple. I wonder if that has to do more wit the actual LEDs I use and if the Radions are that different.

Are you sure you cant set custom wb?

I don't think the source of the light matters.
It's no different now then when i had my mh/t5 setup.
I tend to keep my lighting more white than blue. When I'm adjusting color I'm trying to match what I'm seeing in real life. I know a lot of people keep their tanks real blue so if that's the case, that's what you're going to get in pics as well.
At any rate, any reef tank lighting spectrum is going to be tricky for digital cameras.

Nice info, but how do you get the tank in exposure and the room in exposure in the same photo? or is it all post work?

wow I began reading this thread and had no idea it would turn out to be the Ecotech Radion tank featured on their site! :fish1:

did any of the sponges/ NPS die from the original specimens?

Some of the gorgs are still around but most of the sponges have withered away.
Tough to keep those guys alive in my tank.
They sure add some nice color for a while though.

Congrats

Congrats

Your baby is beautiful and you do just as great a job photographing your newborn as you do your coral. May 21 is my dad's and sister's birthday. I also switched to the radions just last week.
Yup! She arrived! 9 days early, actually. May 21.
But now you made me have to go and post pics. :D

Congrats on your baby! Just wanted to post that this build thread has inspired me to build my own rimless cube tank now. :P Wife isn't too happy!

Awesome! Thanks.
Here's an updated pic. Amazing how fast they grow/change!
And she LOVES to watch the fish already. :)

Why are you hanging the Radion so close to the water line and on full blast nonetheless?
They are about 7-8" off the water now.
Right where EcoTech recommends.
And they run at full blast during the middle of the day because I had a lot of light before this and my tank is used to it. My sps in the center of the tank seem to be very happy with it. They've been growing like gangbusters and that green slimer i posted above is just an inch from the surface now.
Also, being a cube, i have a pretty tall central aquascaping setup. So more light in the center gets more light around the sides in the shadow areas.

Thanks! haha, good luck.
