*d2mini's new 200g Reeftastic Build*

Dennis awesome pics. What camera and lens are you using?

Thanks, Mary.
Cameras are listed in my sig.
The mangrove tank pics were taken with the Olympus and 14-40mm lens, and the top down pics on the previous page were taken with the Nikon and the Nikkor 90mm 1:1 macro.

OK, here's the mangrove tank and some critters that call it home...

Hey Dennis

Is that hermit reef safe or is that why his in the mangrove tank? Cant find them listed on LiveAquaria?

Thanks!

No idea Shaggss.
Can't remember if he came in with TBS stuff or a ReefCleaners order.
But they grow pretty fast and go after the turbos for their big shells. Had them in the frag tank but the were knocking stuff over so had to move them to the mangrove tank.

These look like carribean hermits. I got a few at Reefapalooza. I have a few in my DT and they do knock things around. They also tend to move sand around a bit.

cool. thanks guys...

Picked this guy up this weekend.
I've had pink tube anemones before, but I thought the iridescent dots within the tentacles were badass! Like jellyfish or something.

That pistol variant is what was killing all my fish. I had to remove all my rock to get it out and the fish deaths stopped. Mine was about 3.5 inches long on removal.

This guy was in my display for 2 years and didn't seem to bother anyone.
Now he's in the mangrove tank with the slow moving cardinal and again he seems fine.
I guess every critter has their own personality/behavioral patterns.

He's no 3.5" though. More like 2-2.5".

I have one in a small cube with fish and pep shrimp...he just stays in his little piece of 1/2 pvc, hanging out....except when I feed, then he is out...

He must have gotten the "Manson" shrimp....

Picked up the new frag racks from www.buildinganobsession.com last night!
Took a few quick pics and then transferred them into the frag tank.
Have some arranging and mounting to do but here it is. Notice the chalices under the clear section.
And I included a pic that shows all three kinds of plugs that I use.
:)

still like the sea swirls? Thinking about adding them for my frameless build. It woudl save me from drilling returns BUT they would add something on top of the tank kind of ruining the frameless look...

Love them! Should have gotten them a long time ago.
But yeah, they would look weird on top of a rimless tank unless you could figure out a way to blend them in or disguise them.

...And the hole in the top corner is for the airline on my open channel.

Took me a minute to understand this entire "bean animal" drain system, but looks like something I might be able to do (been without a tank for over 8 years now, time to get started again :) ). Are you happy with the water level in the external box as shown here, any improvements on raising/lowering the drilled holes for the 3 drains? Are you getting any buildup in the internal overflow box since it has to pass through the 2" bulkheads before reaching the drains? Just a little bit curious on this...

The water level is currently running about an inch higher than what you see there.
The holes are working good where they are.
Haven't looked in the overflow yet. It's not exactly easy with the tank being so tall and most of the overflow being under my eurobracing. ;)

The only reason I set it up like this is because I had to go through a wall.
If I had the external box on the back of a normal tank, I would run the drains out from the bottom of the box, not the back.
Or no external box and just come out the back of the tank.

IT'S BLUE CLOVE POLYP KILLING TIME!!!! :uzi:
No pics... just recording for posterity. :)

They started taking over so I was able to score a few Fluke Tabs from a friend who still had some. Last night I dissolved 3.5 tabs in tank water and dumped it into my sump.
I took the mangrove tank offline because I didn't want to kill my pistol shrimp and there is no sign of cloves in there.
Left the frag tank online even though there are no cloves there either but I didn't want the sps going through any temp swings or anything.
The skimmer is offline, as well as my carbon reactor and UV.

Now we wait....

I run one of these and will never set up another tank without a Beananimal drain.

Just a note, you only need the valve on the siphon line, and then you want it as close to the sump water level as possible
