Daniel's RSM 250 SPS tank

Love it, and the way everything is packed in. Acros looking very nice.

Thank you Markalot !!!

I have been traveling since Saturday and will be back home on Thursday. I miss the family and the tank. The corals gave me a lot of peace when I have time to seat, watch them and relax.

Cheers
Daniel

Hey buddy, what is your lighting bulb combination, about to ditch my radions and give in to the t-5. Also, what LED's did you use.
Thanks!

Daniel! Your tank is looking absolutely fantastic.
As you know, I am a fan of yours and your reef keeping ideology.
The photography is great and the video is even better.
The shot with the red milli with the polyps below it is really cool... A little scary but a really nice shot.
I love how densely packed and lush the tank looks.
I am also very impressed with the mixed nature of your tank and how healthy the sps, lps and softies all are!
The growth you are getting is admirable and enviable!
The great colour, growth and diversity of your tank is a testament to your skills.
Soon, you will have no choice but to expand!! :)

WOW Matt ..... thank you very much , you won an invitation to a BQ next summer at my house. I am nearby the Canadian border...... LOL .

Every day I keep my fingers crossed and I am happy when I woke up in a hotel in USA or Europe and see, through my APEX, that the tank is still alive. My travels pushed me to keep the tank as simple as I can. It also helped me to not chase those "difficult SPS" . So, I tried to balance strong SPS with some LPS and a few palies and zoas. I never expected I was going to have success with Acros, but the few I have are doing OK (touch wood right now).

After the DST small increase in ALK due to the dosing pump that pumped an extra hour, I was able to get down from 8 dkh to 7.5 dkh in 2 days. Slowly and I know guys will laugh with a decrease of 0.5 dkh, but I feel sooo much better. I hope in the following days get it to the 7 dkh. It will....slowly! !!

About the refugium I took a lot !!! Of Macro the past weekend. I am pruning it every other week. Good indication that I am feeding well the fish, that generates nutrients for the Macro and corals. Fish are fat like cows...LOL. when I am in my travels my family gets every evening a txt message "remember to feed the fish please".... LOL

Beside that my DIY media reactor full of Matrix cracked. It was my mistake. So I replaced it for a real one, well done, media reactor. Not one, two .... :) I will post pictures later.

That's all.....

Cheers
Daniel

Ps: this week I do not have to travel, neither was a need to go to my office, so I worked from home. That gave me the posibiliti to see the tank more than once during the day.

Nice video, finally had a chance to watch it. Tank is looking terrific. I just have to say this is exactly how I'd like my 150 to look someday, completely packed with healthy corals. :) The birds, the spongodes, the acros, can't decide which I like more.

:) thanks, Dan. That's very kind!.. Actually, my family vacations in Oqunquit, Maine every year.. Now, that is close.. I just might knock on your door!

I forget, do you use Carbon (gac) in your system?

Well..... that is only 1 hour and 24 minutes from home. We can really make that BQ to happen at my house. Then another at the beach I have never been in that town. I drive 1 and a half hour to my office. More, if by next summer our corals, are doing good,we can exchange some frags. But mine are not the same,as yours. I better buy from you or from that LFS,you have. Humm plans for next summer. The Aussie group will be Jelous if they know I can get, at least a half inch frag, from one of your beauties...... LOL

About the carbon . The answer is ... NO.... and.... YES. :)

Well I will say more NO.

it happens that during the last stages of my crash I changed the Carbon bag in my media rack ( Chemipure Elite). My tank is an AIO tank and has in the back a rack to add bags with stuff . That bag was added around the same time I started the refugium. After a month I started to see changes going in the good direction. The bag has to be changed, every 3 months. But that time the tank was moving significantly to an improvement. Then I was afraid to remove anything. So the bag is still there after more than 6 months. It is just a place for Bacterias now.

Do you think I better remove it, now that the tank has really recover ?

I was planning to replace it with another bag of Matrix.

Bottom line : My tank now do not have any media. Only a nice sized refugium and a lot of Matrix.

Here is the refugium. 20 G for a tank of 65G that has 50G of real water volume. Plus a HOB acrylic refugium of ~ 2-3G full of Matrix, plus last month added two media reactors with Matrix (seen in the picture).

The tank just a few minutes ago.

Camara with exposure reduced 1 value (Note 4 Samsung)

Camara with factory setup (No Mods)

Ps: the fuge has 3 fish: a Clown, and 2 trigger fish (I will never add them in the main tank).

I just replaced pump 1 ( in the picture of posting 76 , is the left return pump in the back wall) of my RSM 250 it is the biggest and very powerful. I also replaced the pump that takes water to the fuge for new ones. I regret not taking pictures. They were covered in feather dusters. Nice size, the tubes were brown and the feathers white. I just dumped them right away in the tank.

I will try to take a picture, using the flash, of the chamber inside. It is cover with those feather dusters.

Now I will clean the pumps with vinager + water and save it in the fish room. I will replace the ones I added with these ones in a year from now. In that way I also have a replacement if they decided to fail.

I was expecting to find, who knows what, after one year without cleaning pump 1. Well it wasn't bad at all.

I also replaced the skimmer pump with a new one. Probably it was also a year ago, last July, when I added a new pump after my impeller cracked issue.

In thanks giving week I will clean the chiller pump, and with that I will be done for some time with pumps maintenance. I will see if I buy another Eheim 3000 compact (chiller pump). But I was hesitant because I would like to find a similar pump (Gl/hours) but smaller. Let me know if anyone's knows about one.

Cheers..... Daniel

Why no triggers in your DT?

Beside the blue throat I am afraid of the rest. The next one will be the Niger Triggerfish. I had it in the fuge now. I LOVE ALL TRIGGERFISH But, for what I have read all arround, beside the blue throat any other, of the Reef safe triggerfush, you never know of a change of mind and start to eat my SPS.

I have the Niger and can't remember the name of the other. It has strips. I have some softcorals with them as an experiment. As of today they have not touched them.

What is your experience ?

Cheers
Daniel
