danskim's 300g rimless starphire

I haven't taken the fixture out of the box yet. I just opened it up to see if it was okay. It looks to be fine, but still in its shrink wrap. I think I'm going to leave it like that until I set it up.

But yeah... Every single bulb. When I opened up the box a puff of white smoke came up. I'm guessing it was a combination of smashed glass and the gas inside the bulbs. Hopefully I won't drop dead tomorrow haha. It was double boxed, and the inside box was surrounded by foam on all sides. The outside box looked okay enough, but I guess something must have hit it in the middle or yeah they threw it around since it is pretty light for a long box.

Things are moving pretty slowly. The tank's delivery date is still Oct 27.
The second PowerModul and all 16 bulbs arrived safely.

The tank has arrived. It's a monster, and it's insanely heavy. It's sitting on the floor next to the stand.
My plan is to have a Superbowl party next week so that people can help me get it onto the stand :)
Pictures soon.

danskim:

Why did you decide on using a wood stand instead of one made of metal?

Sorry I didn't see this earlier. I went with wood because it's cheaper! I got a quote for a steel stand, and it was over $1000 + additional for powdercoating. I spent less than $100 on mine I think.

congrats on getting the tank in one piece. its always best if you can build your own stand for a fraction of the cost, that way you can put the rest toward livestock & sps colonies :D

I'm worried how I'm going to get my current colonies out of my old tank into my new tank without breaking them too much...

How much T5HO you have on your 150G?

I'm upgrading to 110G (48x18x30") and I'm thinking of putting 6 T5HO. I currently have 4x39w on a 20" tall 50H and I'm thinking I could use the 4x 36" tube and create a 6" low light in each side.

What tube you have? I have 2x UVL SA, 1 Hagen Marine, 1 Gieserman Aquablue+, and with the reflector I find it make the tank stripped. I hope with 6 tube I'll get an even look.

I had 8x54w over my 150. It seems like it was enough. I use Geisemann and ATI tubes. I forget the exact combination at the moment.

So tonight I had my friends who were over watching the Super Bowl help me get the tank on the stand. Took 12 people to actually lift it onto the stand since it's pretty high... 41".

Here's the picture. Now I can actually start working on it..

Picture isn't great since I didn't want to whip out my 5D.

*edit*
Haha... I noticed that you can still see the marks the suction cups made on the glass.

danskim, what type of flow are you planning on running through the sump?

Not too much. I'm estimating somewhere around 1400-1450gph.

I like your daschund....I have a miniature longhair...

I know you are excited about your tank. But Im sorry to say..just from your one
photo...the silicone job GC did looks aweful! I did business with that company once
and needless to say I will never buy another thing from them again ever!

Esp after reading the story on here about the guy that bought the 250 gallon
from GC and it burst in his living room! He had like $20,000 in damage..and
the owner of GC laughed at him and said it wasnt his problem.

I hope you have better luck....cheers!

A little OT, but here are my two puppies. They are about 6 months old now.
