danskim's 300g rimless starphire

Dan i think you are a little behind for a split .
i bought all 3 calms about 4 months ago 5" derasa, 4" crocea and 5" maxima still all doing fine and getting pretty big and fat. i think derasa is the hardiest, then squamosa, crocea, giga and maxima. if you can keep SPS then clam shouldn't be a problems until angels are in display where they do nip them sometimes. im still a little scared of mine, but fingers are still crossed.

the is a peaceful thread with good materials to learn from and should be kept from OT. Dan if you feel uncomfortable, just right click at the bottom - report Tbone post to a moderator :D

I second the Derasa. I have one and it grows well. I had trouble with Maxima in the beginning but now it is doing well. My second recommendation would be T.Gigas. My 12" one is awesome. I tend to cater to that one the most. My clown loves it also. Here is a picture i took yesterday.

Indeed! I would be scared if the clown were to brush up against the mantle and the clam got scared and trapped it.

yeah giga are the fastest growing clam i have seen around similar to vlamingi in less than a yr.

Last night I took the magnets off the Wavebox and used the little slides that come with every Tunze product :)
I actually like them better. I was using the AlgaeFree magnets and they have a narrower base than the Tunzes. With every pulse, the Wavebox shook a little, and it was bothering me.

Now I have two extra magnets I can use... maybe to stick things on the fridge.

I also placed an order for a 6201 to replace one of the 6101s.

Haha I want 60+x turnover like JarHead!
Well not really because I already have problems with sand moving around. 25" is kind of short actually :(

Sadly, I think I'm going to remove my Pixie Hawkfish. I want to add some cleaner shrimp, so he'll have to go to my frag tank :(
He's a great little fish with a lot of personality... he likes to follow me around all over the tank. That's why it'll be so sad if he's not in there.

I like the idea of a symbiotic pair of a shrimp goby and a pistol shrimp too.

Give your sand some time to settle. My front left corner's sand was getting "crater-ized" when I added the 6060. It's getting better. Sand still moves, but the crater is less pronounced.

The ARM I put down has really helped. Basically no sand dunes :D
I think part of the problem was because I mixed Aragmax (super fine) with Reef floor sand. But I didn't really think about it when I put the sand down, and a lot of the finer sand ended up where obviously there would be a duning problem. Basically stupidity on my part..

Down the road I may try the 6301 in place of a 6200.
Right now flow seems to be great though. I use Interval 2 with both channels at around 60-100%. An extra 2000 gph from the new 6201 should make it even better.

6301s are crazy flow.

You may want to consider putting your 6200s on WavySeas or something that oscillates them instead.

I found that this does a much better job of water movement then just getting higher flow powerheads.

Refrigerator magnets huh, very funny!

I have a 6101 on the WavySea. It's doing a pretty good job. Even with the Stream off, the oscillating return is great.

I originally considered WavySeas for my returns, but was afraid that they would seize up after a period of time. is that not an issue on WavySeas?

Shouldn't be.

The only real issues with WS is you should plug them into a UPS because they lose their memory if the power goes off and if they are pointed right at a coral when the power come back on they could obviously do some damage as they will continue to blast that coral until you reset their controller.

The other issue is you are not supposed to get the main body wet. These two things should have been engineered in but until somebody gets smart and puts into production a competing oscillating return for Stream-type powerheads then WS has the market cornered.

I personally think if somebody could produce such a unit for around$100-$150 they would clean up the market!

There's the X-wave system from Pacific Coast that is kind of making its way in...
But yeah, I wish they included those features.

That's good to know about the wavyseas. I *could* actually replumb my returns into wavyseas. I was just concerned since Sea Swirls stop swirling for so many people after a while, and I assumed the same for WavySeas.
