Dark dots on monti

Hi

My montipora cap is struggling a bit, its faded and a bit white in some spots. Im increasing my Alk slowly up to 9dkh from 7dkh and dosing red seas energy A & B.

But what Ive seen today baffles me, in the photo you will see that there are lots of small dark spots on the surface of the coral, that they might be some sort of parasite bit they look like pits.

Any help welcome.

Tony

those pits seems to be where the polyps are now hidding

That coral doesn't look good, at all. Hope you figure out what's going on. Fwiw, increasing Alk from 7-9 won't do much unless you are down from a usual 9. It's probably something else.

Hard to see closely the dots but they do seem to be round pits, I can't see any movement and I've sat and watched for some time. The hermit crabs are in there now presumably they are picking at the dead tissue.

Those are dead polyp holes. I'm the coral rescuer for one of my local LFS and I have not seen a coral come back from where your is I'm sorry. I can't even give you a suggestion of what to do. Do you know anyone with a thriving reef that could try a rescue and will actually let that coral in there tank?
