How long to they live BTW?

I have a mantis shrimp tank at the office. Been doing well, eating, moving rocks, having fun with the feeder crabs, and snails (his favourite)

Today I come into work and see him having "seizures" on the sea bed.

Pick him up and he dead a few seconds later.

Bummer! (and shame on me!)

Everything else is doing fine (remaining hermit crabs, sponge crab, squamosa clam, orange-tailed filefish, button mushrooms, live rock, etc.)

Test parameters look within spec, so I dunno, he was about 6" long.

Maybe couldn't shed? Dunno..

They can live for quite a while from what I'm told . Which nano was he in ? A bad molt could be a real possibility . Beautiful creatures mantis shrimp . Sorry to hear about your loss . I lost a pair of cleaners once and they were the neatest .

It didnt die of old age!!!

It didnt die of old age!!!

Sorry to hear, but did you say that it was at your office? I am pretty sure the office cleaning crew came in there and used some heavy detergents to clean your office and that is what killed your mantisshrimp. If it was having those spasms than, then I am sure of it. The cleaning detergents react with it's ultra fast muscles and lights out  Sorry to hear.
