DA's 240 lagoon

Love the Setosa. That's one I'll have to pick back up once I get my new tank up and running. It's a slow grower but unique color and had to sell mine before I tore down tank this spring to move.

Wow the tanks is lookin amazing now...great job...cant wait for more updates :)

Congrats on the fishes and new corals,,,,

Maldives Pseudanthias squamipinnis are excelllent choice for anthias...i had kept a harem in one of my older reef tanks....and they used to eat anything i throw in the tank...and needed frequent feeding.
Hope you would keep an eye on the feeding regimen for them, coz the tank is maturing and frequent feeding can lead to PO4 accumulation...just a humble thought.

Happy Reefing !!

Back from my honeymoon and the tank made it through just fine. Had some neighbors and friends checking on the tank and feeding the fish and everything made it through.

Managed to make it out Sunday to browse the LFS but once again pretty disappointed. Picked up one semi browned out maricultured colony that is suppose to be a rainbow Millie but well see. Also picked up a few frags from local reefers and a RBTA. Unfortunately, the RBTA found a powerhead overnight and got roughed up. It foot looks good and only a portion of the tentacles are mangled so I'm confident it will make a full recovery. I put it in a mesh breeder container in the tank for now to let it heal.

Pictures coming up tonight.

Still need to work on the white balancing, but here are a few pics

Have you moved everything over from your old DT to the new tank? How is your light fixture holding up? Is it going to be enough or are you going to add some supplements to reach the bottom edges of the tank?

Great looking tank:) any issues with the Genesis yet I'm thinking of copying your set up:) just the genesis part though... you other gear is way too much like the lights heheh:)

Sorry about the lack of updates. Some how I got unsubscribed to my own thread. Oops...

I moved what made it but unfortunately some type of infection claimed my Powder blue and watanabe. Had those guys for a real long time so it was rough watching them go and not being able to do a thing about it. I think I bought ever medication under the sun and fought it for a good month before I lost them. The anthias, mystery wrasse and clown are in the tank now and I've setup a QT so I can pick up some more fish.

I think I'm going to have to add supplements for the edges. I tried a AI fixture that I had but didn't like the look. I don't have too much on the edge yet so I have time still to figure something out.

Nice setup

Coming along nicely!
Slow process but getting there.

Thanks! I'll try and be better about updates

I love the Genesis... actually I LOOOOVVVE the Genesis. I had this system setup on my previous tank as well and it is awesome. I change 20% a week and literally just push a button. If you have the space and funds I highly recommend it.

So I am absolutely terrible at taking pictures. I've tried custom WB on and off the camera and everything just looks washed out with blue or like brown poo.

I've really got to figure out how to get some decent picks. I picked up a bunch of stuff from some local reefers but I just can't get a decent pic.

Here's a sneak peek of some of the pics I'm working on

Well the white balance on most cameras can be adjusted to different likds of lights. Soo many reefers are soo heavy on the blue lights you may not be able to get rid of the blue. If the water is not crystal clear, you will get that washed out look.

This time I used the custom white balance on the camera and then corrected the white balance on the computer. Looks better but for some reasons some blues turned purple.

It's settled down I think. Stayed put for about a week then started moving about but has settled down again. Crossing my fingers that it just stays put now but willing to deal with it since it's such a beautiful mag.

Goodness do keep a very close watch on the anemone.
Vortech+anemone= sushification.
Anemones are movers that's in their nature I guess.
Are ya using those cover sponges that came with the Vortech? Maybe it can prevent mishaps to an extent IMHO.
Happy Reefing!!

Yup the sponges are on but hopefully it doesn't come down to that. I'm more worried about new fish ending up in the pumps.

I have run MP40's since their first generation. I remember getting the notice that there was a gen 2 upgrade. Point being, I feel like I have a good bit of experience with them, and I never had a fish get stuck to one, stuck in one, etc. The suction coming in from the sides is really quite small considering how much water you are moving. The thing is that you are pulling water from a very large area on the pump. Think about it this way. On a standard pump or power head, you are pulling the water from an area about the size of a quarter (your inlet), give or take, depending on your pump. With a Vortech your pump inlet is roughly the size of a dollar bill, if not more. Your inlet is almost the entire area that is being covered by the foam filters. In addition, you are not pressurizing the water in any way as you would in an impeller pump. You are not forcing the water through a small opening. The sudden pressure and velocity in such a small area of the inlet of an impeller pump is what sucks fish and other critters up. My clowns would get very close to the Vortech sides and had no problems getting away.

That's not to say you shouldn't be cautious. The foam is a good idea. I never tried them. I used to slow the pumps all the way down for at least a day or two when adding new fish. At the lowest setting, I don't think any fish would have a problem getting away.

Now anemones are another story all together. I definitely shredded a bubble tip with a Vortech. The low pressure water intake of the Vortech doesn't help out at all if the animal cant move on its own. I would think that with the foam in place, an anemone would survive a Vortech with very little injury. Hopefully it would roll off the foam and blow away from the pump. Worst case is it gets stuck to the foam. I just dont know if it would get sucked into tiny openings in the foam. If it did, that could be really bad.

Sorry for rambling....

Good Luck! ;)
