Question: Moving from an in sump (BM200 - that I love) to an external skimmer and have decided on DAS. What I need to know is which model will be best for a 200+g total water volume. Heavily stocked, overly fed mixed reef. I don't want to over skim because I don't think it's good for my corals (MO). So ex-2 or ex-3? Thanks

EX-3

The 3/4 was very tight to slip on i was only able to get to the the first barb i think that is what is called. I am going to new homedepot near me will try there. The lowes i went to didn't have 1" clear.
Thanks,

it's definitely 3/4", 1" will be too big unless your stores are sizing their tubing differently somehow

Yes, ¾ inch worked but only the more pliable vinyl tubing. I guest the thicker reinforced tubing will work but with more elbow grease, and I was scared to break something. THANKS,

Im really thinking of getting one of these skimmers but dont know if an EX-1 will be enough for my tank or not. I have a 75 gallon tank with a 25 gallon sump so that makes 100 total gallons of system water. Its a FOWLR tank that will soon be heavily stocked as soon as I can get a decent skimmer.

Should be plenty. I have a 135 with 50gal sump/refugium and large tangs and angels, the EX-1 works great, better than my old Euroreef CS6-2+.

Hmmm, I think I would probably be better off with the EX-2 but its just so much more expensive than the EX-1. Why is that?? Just because of the extra pump?

I just have to vent a little.

WHy are the DAS skimmers such a pain in the butt to get? WHy cant more online companies carry them?

They are a great skimmer, I got an EX3 for my father in law for Xmas 1 yr ago and this skimmer is awesome but what a complete pain in the butt to get it. I went through petorama first one came in broke because of the crappy packaging job then it took months i'm talking like 3 months after the claim check went through to get this sent out!

So, I have been going through another company and they also have no clue when new ones will come in and said they havnt got a phone reply from there supplier in over a week. I want an EX1 bad. but this is such a pain

WHy does it have to be like this? WHy cant premium Aquatics or someoine good carry them?

Maybe the profit margin is not enough for folks like PA to carry them. Or maybe DAS is choosy as to how many outlets are available. There could be a host of reasons why they are not readily available on every street corner.

I too have been seriously considering getting one and the communications with Scott have been great, but so far all there has been is promises that "they will be here tomorrow". This has been the situation for the past 4 weeks for me; maybe longer for others.

Now I'm to the point where I'm backing off on my urge to buy a DAS. This could very well be a prelude to the type of service one may expect with warranty issues or replacement parts. It's not a very good way to establish customer confidence, that's for sure!

i would say anyone that is thinking about buying one of these skimmers to post in their favorite vendors forums here on RC. Maybe we can generate enough interest to get someone like ReefGeek or Premium Aquatics to start carrying these skimmers and not have to go through the horrid suppliers. Get a good thread going in a RC supporting vendor's forum showing how much interest there is and maybe they will make the effort to find out how they can be suppliers.

Once this thread jumped from 1,000 views to 10,000 all these stocking problems started, it seems.

I don't even know if these skimmers are being manufactured anymore... I swear I read they are just all stock in a warehouse.

it's not the stores that are bad it's DAS.. when I ordered from petorama they sent the order to DAS and so the skimmer never even went to petorama. I would try to look up petorama number in yllowbook.com or something like that and see if the store will send you a store stocked skimmers. it might cost a little more for shipping and taxes but it's worth it....

They really are kinda weird when it come to information, made by a company that makes nothing related or really even in retail and carried only by two online vendors that barely have a picture of it and seem to get it smuggled from some cuban warehouse that has had them hidden away for 4 years...

Damn good skimmer though :)
