The BX models are less efficient ... D.A.S. will tell you so, Petorama will tell you so ... everybody will tell you that they are less productive than the EX models .. HOWEVER it sounds like you have a great one there!

Is yours a meshmodded one?

Skwirl glad to see you like your skimmer. I am glad I kept my das over the euroreef. I was in your neck of the woods last week, and thought about contacting you, but was so busy all week I didn't get time to breathe.

The ex2 is a nice skimmer! I inadvertantly gotten one by mistake.
Petorama sent me the wrong skimmer and i had to wait again for the ex3 to come in. Luckaly they Das not petorama sent it out 2 day ups.
I almost said i'll just keep the ex2.

How is the build quality of these skimmers? Is the acrylic cast or extruded?


How long has DAS manufactured these? Whats the typical life span of one of these pumps and how much are they to replace?

Also, What Deltec would the das ex3 be comparable to?

HBtank, can you tell a difference in the air pull with the mesh mod? did you stack the mesh on top of the pins or chop them off? Did the mesh pull more water than the stock?

from what i have read the das uses the same pumps as the h&k skimmers......or the same as the old deltec......cant rember the number deltec afb600?? is same as das ex-2

DAS ex-3 compares better to the H&S a200-3x2001 since they use the same pumps and design, that cost $1400 http://www.thereefhut.com/product_info.php?cPath=38_179&products_id=681

DAS have been making these skimmer since before 2000 when they brought the design for deltec.

its cost $!10 to replace each pump. I'm not sure how long they will last but the AB2001 is one of the best NW pumps. The build quality is solid.

I have been using DAS equipment for 10+ years. I have one skimmer that is 7 years old and it is still running the original pump and working fine. I would say the pump usually last about 5 years or so. As for how long they have been making them I am unsure they have had them around for as long as I can remember. Definitely before I started my business which was 7 years ago. I worked for two different companies for 4 years before that and they were using them as well.

Where are you getting replacement pumps for 10 dollars?
