Looking very good.

Thanks mcliffy, I have been an admirer of your tank for some time now!

+1 on what Nick says for the Alpha though... works best at 10" depth. I'm getting some insane results with this thing so far!!!

what lights r u using and how is that skimmer treating u so far?

Using a pair of 250watt Radium's driven by individual Galaxy ballasts with Lumenmax Elite reflectors supplemented by a pair each of 54watt Fiji purple's and UVL Super Actinic's driven by an IceCap 660 ballast with IceCap reflectors.

The Alpha... what can I say, it's the ALPHA! Seriously, I'm really amazed at this thing, the build quality is truly second to none and is producing copious amounts of nogg!!! As Ferris Bueller would say, I highly recommend one if you have the means!~

Dave, have you figured out how you are going to raise the canopy when you need to get your hands in there? That canopy looks pretty heavy so your options are probably limited. You've probably figured something out already : )

+50 on the skimmer. That thing is really nice! Love the aquascape as well. Very clean and I know your fish will love it when they grow up.

Tank is looking really good. Can't wait to see it in a few months. Couple questions about your zeovit system. What are you currently dosing? How soon did u start adding the corals?

Thanks for your kind words and oops, sorry I just remembered this question...

I followed the 14 day Zeovit start up cycle outlined here:
http://www.korallen-zucht.de/en/service/initial-cycle-just-14-days/index.html

Just this week however, my dosing schedule was changed to the following:

Start2 0.25 ml AM & PM
SP 2 drops daily
XTRA 1ml 2x daily
Bak 3 drops 2x weekly
Food7 2 drops 2x weekly

Thanks for your interest!

THANKS Craig!

Yeah, the canopy weighs maybe 50lbs? It's currently suspended by some tow chains from HD that I spray painted black. Those are connected to 4" eye screws that are drilled straight into 2 x 4's in my attic and then a couple 4" eye screws in each of the top four corners of the canopy. They're connected with some clips that I can raise individually as I need to raise or lower the canopy.

This isn't exactly what I plan for over the long haul though.... I ideally I'd like to get like a wench system or something from Graingers maybe? That would be how I'd like to set it up down the road, able to raise and lower at the touch of a button!

If anyone has suggestions as to how to facilitate this sort of set up, I'm ALL EARS!

Awesome set-up Dave! I really like your stand and canopy too. I imagine your friend is a professional. Very, very nice.

Thanks Paul,

Yeah, my buddy does some pretty hi-end stuff for custom homes and such. He really out did himself and I'm just glad I could get him to do it!

How's your tank coming? I just was looking at your thread and noticed no updates???

I'm gonna send you a PM about your Zeo RX... You may like it:smokin:

The Vertex mod is a great idea. Thanks again for the headz up. :smokin:

Yep, my build is barely gaining any ground. I know it's done though and ready to be shipped. I sent the builder a couple e-mails asking if they can throw a frag tank together quickly and place it inside the display tank for shipping. I also asked for a Friday delivery since they don't seem to do Saturdays. My stand should just about be done too. But I've still got lots to do for the tank. I'm also working on my boat right now. So my plate is full. :)

Dave,
any update on how the Alpha's working after you've had it running for a couple of weeks?

Hey John,

Funny you should ask... About a week or so ago I made some adjustments to the Alpha that have improved my performance a bit.

When I first set it up I didn't realize but I put the 1500 lph nozzle in instead of the 1800 lph. Also, I thought I had the skimmer set at the 10" water level but it was actually sitting in about 10.5" instead. So, I raised the platform .5" to get the 10" desired level and changed out the 1500 lph nozzle for the 1800 lph one.

The skimmer actually worked pretty good to start out with but I never got any real build up in the neck. Since making the adjustments listed above, I've seen a marked improvement in what it's pulling out!

Check it out

This is the day after I set it up with the 1500 lph nozzle

Now here's the day after I made all the adjustments. Check out the neck!

Now here it is about 3.5 days since I last cleaned it. Notice the difference?

Wedge pipe is set about half way closed
DSC02590.jpg

I suppose I could close the wedge pipe up a bit more but I like what it's doing for now. This is with 3 blue/green chromis, 1 female lyretail Anthias, my 8+ year old Royal Gramma, Neon Goby and a Precula Clown fish and about 40 frags or so give or take for bio-load. I'll be adding some more fish and more corals down the line but I'm letting things "brew" like they are for awhile and see how things go. Besides, I've gotta pay for some of the new toys before I can buy anything else or I'll be in dutch with the wife:D

Great tank, Dave! Love the aquascaping ... I'm a great fan of the minimalist way. The tank is going to be insane when those frags grow up. :)

Thanks Tone!

Now I just have to hurry up and wait!

I'm a fan of your tank too and look forward to following your updates. Thanks for dropping in!
