Dave's 150G Starphire Zeo Reef~

UPDATE...

UPDATE...

Hi everyone,

Well, today marks my 14th day of the 14 day Zeovit cycle and I thought I'd post up on some of the results thus far.

I have placed 4 small fish as per the instructions,{Day 10 First herbivore fish (max. 2 per 200 L) can be added}, my first 4 "hardier corals" and have also added some clean up crew members consisting of Turbo snails and hermit crabs.

Surprisingly, everything seems to be doing quite well for only 2 weeks into a cycle! The fish are content and the corals are already showing signs of improvement as well. The corals were pretty stressed due to a little mishap I had in the frag room. I was pretty ticked off and didn't report on this but I lost probably 90% of my original water from my previous tank due to a hose coming undone and the pump "doing it's job" and continuing to pump all the water out and onto my "hardwood" floor no less, and out the door:mad2: Needless to say it was VERY aggravating and I have once again lost some of my nicer corals... However, there are more than half that have hung in there.

I had about 15 gallons of pre-mixed salt water on hand but had to make up the rest on the fly... The corals didn't like that too well we'll say... Anyway, everything seems to be coming back to normal but I'm a few corals short of where I should be. But that's enough of that rant:o

So, as I was saying things are progressing well~! Corals that I've placed in the tank are looking real good and coloring up NICE, amazing stuff that Zeovit!!!

There's a slight accumulation of some brown algae on some areas of the sand and rocks but nothing too bad or surprising for this stage of the game.

Here's some pictures for you all to see:

Hello Dave,

I am glad to see your new set up.
The project is well thought and the craftsmanship of the stand is superb. I am more fan of something more simple, more slick in terms of lines but I also can admire classical stands and that is one nicely well made piece of decoration. :)

I am excited to see the development of this tank and how the Zeovit System will work for you.

When does the new skimmer arrives? I am curious to see someone try it and give his opinion about it.

Tagging along... :)

Regards,
André

Why thank you Andre',

I've enjoyed your thread for some time now as well! You've got a very nice set up too, especially for someone just starting out! Can we expect any updates???

As far as the skimmer goes, I'm expecting it in 2 to 3 weeks if all goes well. Thankfully a local reefer was kind enough to grant me use of his H&S A200-1260 so, I'm in good shape until mine arrives!~

I'm going to have to come by next week to see it in person.

It'd be a pleasure to have you over John!

I'll bring over my ATB, so that you can check it out. I've been running my WM K-2 for the past couple of weeks. It should give you a good idea of the size your RE Vertex cone is going to be.

TWEAKED THE ROCK WORK AND ADDED MORE CORALS

TWEAKED THE ROCK WORK AND ADDED MORE CORALS

Hey guys,

Sonny, Nick, Chris... I changed my rock work and added more of my corals today and wanted to get some input from you on the change???

I do like it with two separate islands much better vs. the one longer one...

Check it out....

Hmm, truth be told, I'm still working on the "right kind" of lift mechanism myself! I had something a bit different in mind to start with and that didn't quite work out to my "comfort" level so, I switched to the chains at the last minute just to get the lights up and going.

I'm not sure but I will incorporate some thinner cable for each of the four corners and work out some sort of "lift" mechanism!

I "can" lift with the chains but have to manually do each corner and not all too easily at this point. I'm trying to figure out a solution as we speak so, like you... I'm looking for suggestions my self:lol:

Hope we can both find a solution....!

ANYONE WITH IDEAS PLEASE CHIME IN!:D

I got to see Dave's tank in person today and it is AMAZING. The build quality of the stand and canopy are top notch! I really like how you can access the stand from the sides. Everything is really nice. good job so far.

Thanks John,

Nice having you over today... Thanks for bringing the ATB medium and the Warner K-2 for me to look at. Impressive skimmer collection you've got... Now I just need to come take a look at "your" tank!

You're welcome anytime, I couldn't have gotten this far without your generosity!!!

Once my corals start to grow out, you've definitely got a freebie frag pack coming your way!
