Very nice collection of fish you have going Dave. Looks great.

Thanks Brad, nice to see you here! How's your new tank coming along? Let me know when you get a chance....

Ha, ha.. ANOTHER fish update!

Ha, ha.. ANOTHER fish update!

More fishies!!!

Well, it's been a long day and a lot to do. Many errands to run and picking up new fish, taking pictures and spending family time have been quite the juggling act... BUT, I finally got the new fish in and a few new pics for your viewing pleasure, lol!

Here's some of the McCosker and the Carpenter's Flasher

Here's the Carpenter's Flasher on his own...

This guy's not missing any meals, trust me... check out his fat belly!
DSC06365.jpg

I've tried and tried to get some better shots of these guys but they're all over the place and hard to shoot. I'll try to get some better shots in the future but at least you get the idea, lol!

But wait... there's more!

But wait... there's more!

Laboutei Wrasse and Peppermint Hogfish!

Ok, now I guess I kind of went fish crazy the past couple days but you don't see fish like this around here everyday and the prices were too good to pass up.

I'm very fortunate to have acquired these two guys....

Here's the Laboutei Wrasse (juvenile)

He's a really fast swimmer

Now, here's the one I'm told is the Holy Grail of Hogfish... The Peppermint Hogfish!

These were taken just moments after adding them to the tank so they're still a bit shy and these were the best pics I could get of them so soon after being added to the tank.

I'll try to get some better shots in the coming days ahead!

Updated fish list
4x Lyretail Anthias (1 Super female/male / 3x female)
3x Blue Green Chromis
1x Ringtail Tang
1x Naso Tang
1x Pyramid Butterfly
1x Royal Gramma
1x True Percula Clown
1x Neon Goby
1x Ruby Headed Wrasse
1x Redheaded Wrasse
1x McCoskers Flasher Wrasse
1x Carpenter's Flasher Wrasse
1x Laboutei Wrasse
1x Pepperming Hogfish

19 fish total and counting!

Oh and Dan, you had asked about me having a net... I have these panels around the top of the tank. They were originally to cut the glare from the lights.. got some complaints about this. Anyway, they also kind of act as and enclosure around the top of the tank and will hopefully dissuade any would be carpet surfers!

Well, I just took some water in to have my Po4 checked with the low range colorimeter at my LFS. With all the new fish and the heavy feeding I want to keep tabs.

Anyway, it came in at 0.00, way to go Alpha!!! Plus running Zeovit is a plus for me as well.

Here are my current parameters as of today:

Salinity 1.024 / 34ppt
KH= 7.0 (Elos)
CA= 470 (Elos)
Mag= 1300 (Elos)
No3= 0.00 (Salifert)
Po4= 0.00 (Milwaukee colorimeter)

Corals are looking good and the fish are fat and happy!

By the way, I'm still thinking on adding a pair of Golden Rhomoid Wrasses and am now seriously considering a Gold Flake Angel!

Wow Dave great additions, your tank has really come to life. And your phosphates coming out at zero is awesome. Ahh, I see the panels what are they made of? Out of curiosity, if you were going to do the panels why didn't you set the canopy on top of the tank? (Thinking out loud, maybe because it so well built that it weighs a ton.) So it looks like even if they do jump there will be goalie there to stop them from hitting the carpet.

Thanks Dan,

I was pleasantly surprised yesterday when I got the Zero phosphate reading... I figured I'd have at least an acceptable low reading but nope... a big fat ZERO! Woo hoo!!! FYI, I feed HEAVY too, I like my fish fat and happy!

As far as the panels and a canopy "on top" of the tank... well, I really wanted a floating canopy all along for this new tank but was met with nothing but negativity by others here in the house hold. No one here besides me (and my brother/business partner) is familiar with the whole floating canopy concept and they all thought it looked foreign and like it wasn't "complete". I heard things like, "when are you going to finish the top of the tank?"... "why did you leave it open, isn't it supposed to sit on top of the tank"... "it doesn't look like it's finished"... stuff like that.

Anyway, making the panels was a happy medium for everyone so that's why it's like that today. And yes, it does weigh about 50+ plus pounds easy. I haven't had any of the fish try them out yet but I think like you say the panels would serve as a "fish goalie" and kick them back in the tank if they try to escape, lol!

A little update

A little update

Well, sadly my baby Naso and Peppermint Hogfish did not make it. :confused:

So, in an effort to console myself I did what any other self respecting reefer would do... went out and bought 2 more fish to replace them of course, lol!

A few pictures of the days new purchases...

how is the new 47mm nozzle working for you ? compare to other nozzle? better?

47mm nozzle working well so far, pulling out a little bit darker skimmate. Just gave the skimmer it's first bath last night so, it's performing a little like it did when I first got it.

I think the performance will improve after a few days back of being back in operation.....

hi
with the new thin wall 47mm do you have to close the widge alittle bit or full open? how high is your water level? thanks

IME - save your money. While unique, they are a very deep water species (generally collected at 130+') and like cool water. I have had several and even had some imported them direct at one time. They generally get skin infections and do not survive long term. Best left in the ocean in my experience.

I'm looking into getting a pair of Cirrhilabrus rhomboidalis's and then a couple of Tangs and I think I'll be done with fish for a while. If anyone has any experience with the rhomboidalis's, I'd love to here from you.

Thanks for looking!

I have it closed off just passed the half way point for a wetter skimmate. As for water level I have it sitting in 9" of water as advised on the Alpha owners thread.

WOW, thanks for stopping in 250, I've been a fan of your tank/setup for awhile and appreciate you looking in here!

As far as the Rhomboids go, thank you for your advice but it's gonna be hard not to follow it. :lol:

Anytime, and great looking set-up.

I love the wrasses and own quite a few myself however I will never purchase a rhomboid again (specially given their prices). Not ideally suited for our reef systems IME.

teaser update...

Sorry for not updating in a while, my camera has been acting up and I've been very busy with work.

Anyway, I thought I'd at least throw up a pic of the Leopard Wrasse I got today. I've been looking a long time for a healthy one and I was finally able to acquire one.

Here's a picture taken with my Black Berry:

I'll try to give a more thorough update as soon as I'm better able to do so!
