Dave's 150G Starphire Zeo Reef~

Whats with the modesty....I think RC should make a rule that anyone with a current TOTM can not be modest. Face it Mark you are baller..haha

Now lets keep these posts up for Dave so he can get his splits and be on the way to TOTM like grand master Mark. :)

Wow.... I don't consider myself in the same league as Mark just yet. My tank has a LOT of growing in to do and a considerably greater number of LE sps and LPS and so on and so on corals to add in before I can be like my hero Mark!~

Besides, I think I'm a good 20 pages or so away from being close to a split anyway aren't I? Isn't it like 40 pages before it splits, anyone know?

Thanks

Dave how are the new Galaxy ballasts doing, like'em? How about the 400's, are your corals acclimated yet?

Thanks Darryl, but I'm just a furloughed state worker due to our govenor being as good at politics as he was at actually acting :hmm2:

Thanks Dave. There are no more splits since the upgrade

A Little Help from the New Guy!~

A Little Help from the New Guy!~

I've been battling a little GHA lately so today I got myself a new predator.... He's a Hawaiian Blue Spot Sea Hare and they tell me he's actually "rare"? Don't know if there's much truth to this but I was happy to get one!

I've read a few places of people using them with great success but have never been able to get one locally till today! I'm very excited to finally be able to have a critter in the tank who will lend me a hand in ridding my reef of the very unsightly GHA!!!

Interesting old link from "Janet's Reef" I found about them here: http://www.janetsreef.com/sea_hare.htm

Cool creature Dave. Coincidentally I found a similar species in my tank last week. First I thought it was some kind of pest anemone, but then it started to move ;) Don't know how I got it, I think it hitchhiked on a Bali coral plug.
Let me know how it's doing at eating algae! :)

Leonardo

The one I had did a good job in my tank a while ago. Make sure you pull him after he gets the job done or he'll starve and foul your tank. My kids called him "Shrek".

Thanks Leonardo,

He's a pretty cool little critter! Never seen one before but I've taken a liking to him pretty well!

Funny you mentioned Shrek, when I first saw it that's the first thing it made me think of, lol!

So, they won't eat anything "but" hair algae then? That's a bummer... I'll be sure to get him out once he's don't then, I don't want him to die at my hand. I'll have to pass him on to a local and keep him around incase I or anyone else around here needs him in the future!

And you know what cracks me up??? The property value of our rental property in Tolleson. It's literally cracking me up :fun2:

They are seasonal, Most places start getting the blue spots in around feb to march it seems. I will tell you though they eat like CRAZY. I dont even know why people bother with mexi turbos etc.

Still kinda hard to see those blue dots but you will love em for getting rid of algae. I had one die a few years ago and just picked up another last week and 3/4 of my hair algae is gone.

How well does yours do between discerning the "glass" and the "rock"? Mine doesn't seem to like the rock so far as he keeps cruising the glass??? I've moved him back onto the rocks a few times now and I keep finding him on the dang glass!

I keep telling him he's got work to do but he seems to be a slow starter so far, lol!

yeah most of the time it seems he touches the rock and just falls off then cruises the sand bed. Unfortunately mine suffers from the same Low iq problem. I am sure there are smarter ones out there as mine just touches the rock and then stops and I guess thinking its going to be way too much work going up hill and turns around

You may want to put screening around your power heads. They are sea hare killers.

Thanks Gregg,

I'll be watchfull... my intake screens aren't quite wide enough for him to get trough I don't think though. They're the 6205 screens and modded 6055's so, I don't think he'd be able to get through except through the front. That's where I need the intake screens, at least on the 6105's anyway as the 6055's have got them. My wave box needs an intake screen on the front of the output pump too. :eek2:
