DBarsotti's Tank in Town

That looks crazy stressful. Hopefully none of those big beautiful colonies broke. Post some more pics once things get set up and settled.

That looks like a seriously huge pile of work!!
good job!!!

Yeah it was definitely a crazy task

right on man!

wow that looks like a lot of work. I hope everything pulls through for you. Good luck with the new build and the corals look great and some look massive!

wow..pure awesomeness.

Sweet sweet tanks. The top downs of your 90 lagoon are nothing short of amazing!

Wow... that's a lot of coral and water to move! And some huge colonies at that. I can't imagine the stress level! Lol awesome man! :)

Thanks guys I really appreciate it!

The force is with you. That was a lot of work! So you are planning on setting up a similar lower rock level like your lagoon or will you bring some pieces upward with the extra space?

haha thanks. I actually drew up a little picture the other day of what i think i might do with the rockwork..

i was thinking of a cascading wall down from the over flow and then a shallower island on the other side.

and yes.. i will be getting a mermaid. haha

And! I just ordered the 48x36x24 display!! Should be done in a few weeks

Wow. I wish my coolers held such things right now.

ha, thanks! i wish they were in my new 180g already tho ha

So I've been thinking about a fish list for the new 180

So far I have this..

1 3" purple tang
1 3" yellow tang
1 2.5" hippo tang

4 Lyretail Anthias (have 1 already)
2 semi-snowflake clowns ( have 1)

5-7 Black Bar Chromis (maybe, waiting on feed back for this fish)
5-7 Blue Chromis (maybe)

And I was also thinking about a corris wrasse?
Or
Perhaps a harmen of Longfin fairy wrasse ( cirrhilabrus rubriventralis)

Thoughts?

Skip the coris wrasse, not the best of fish for a reef tank for a multitude of reasons. Do you remember what I told you about that CPR overflow? Tanks have looked great. Do you still have that 120 by chance?

You definitely need some type of wrasse in there. I am a fan of the leopard and flasher wrasses myself. A harem of longfins would be cool, but I hear they can get aggressive towards each other and maybe other fish. It would not be easy to find a group of females and a single male either I would think.

Ha yeah, the CPR overflow works great until it doesn't..

thanks! I actually sold the 120g a few months ago, sorry man, There's always a ton on craigslist tho, that's where i got mine.

Once the new display is up and running you should come over and check it out

wow that very nice work u have done..........by the way what fixture t5 u have got?

Thanks! The t-5 fixture is a 48" TEK.

Yeah a friend of mine just got a longfin wrasse and its REALLY nice but i have started to notice it getting attitude towards his other fish. I definitely don't want any drama in the tank. And you're right, i went browsing last night and it seems its not too easy to find any females.

I definitely want a little group of some sort of wrasse but i'm not sure of which yet.

black bar chromis are great fish. They tend to vanish after a while though. Super docile.

Thanks! I have been looking for someone who has kept them. I think i may get a group of them. The Blue chromis turn into a little gang in my experience and i would like to try a fish that doesn't get so territorial.

Very nice work.Why 150w? which bulb ?

Thanks AG, I'm going with the 150watt only because I have the fixture on hand, I'll be using the Phoenix 14k bulbs. I used this fixture on my 24" tall 120g and it seemed to work pretty well for the SPS, even had corals on the sand bed that kept good growth and color, just have to change out the bulbs a little sooner than usual but with the bulbs being so cheap it's not a big deal.

Down the road I may switch this fixture out for a pair of single ended 250w running 20k bulbs, but for now the 150s will have to do.

My friend runs the single ended 250w 20k radium with the Magnetic ballast and, wow, He gets some killer colors.

Aw today I did something so stupid..

When I moved my system over to my new place I had about 60lbs of live rock that wouldn't fit in the tank or sump so it's been in a trashcan for about a week.. Well the power head I had in there apparently broke so when I opened it up today there was a nice little smell coming from the can..

So I figured ehhhh it doesn't look that bad.. Well about half way down through putting the rock in the tank a RANCID smell started coming up.. I immediately realized I was putting dead stinky rock into my system. I quickly ripped it all back out and started mixing water for a water change..

Soooo many dead critters in the bottom of the trash can when I dumped it out. The corals and tank look like they are alright after I just did a water change. I hope I didn't nuke the tank with death. We shall see.

So looks like I got the rocks out in time, everything is stable.

Ha that's good.

My girlfriend was passing through LA today and stopped at vivid to check
it out. She found these two little beauties and brought them home for me

Still plan on adding 2 more once I get the new display.
Both are still hiding right now but have started to peak out of the rock work to see what's going on.

2 female lyretail anthias

Ok.. So I can't get these fish to eat.

I've tried the following with no success.

-live brine
-frozen mysis
- frozen other stuff
-frozen cyclopeez
-2 different pellets
-2 different flakes

Any other suggestions?

Of course the lyretail I have in there now eats pretty much all that stuff ha

If you don't already, try feeding them with the power heads on. My anthias were not interested in half-floating/sinking food, but when I turned the flow on, they were suddenly interested by the fast movement. I used frozen brine.

I always feed with the power heads on because my fish hide if they aren't. Lights come on at 7 so I'm goin to try a mix of things again tonight. I hope they eat I really don't want to lose them
