Are the Giesemann and AB units essentially the same or is there a significant difference. What would you recommend for a 6' x 2' x 2' (Oceanic 180) reef with mostly SPSs and Clams? Also curious your recomendation for an Oceanic 58 with SPS and Clams?

The 180 has a chiller, but the 58 doesn't. Guess I could get one if need be.

I was planning on electronic MH ballasts (3 x 400watt either 10k or 6500) until I read a thread talking about the Giesemann DE 250 pendant.

Giesemann lights are superior in finish, they are highly polished, the final result is similar to a car finish. The metal shell is also much thicker. The lenses and reflectors are also much nicer. I no longer sell lighting outside of Texas. Giesemann has a new distribution center in Atlanta Georgia and asks that your dealer contact them to fill your request. The contact person is Lou Ekus at Tropic Marin. www.tropicmarin.com. The top of the line fixture is the system 260moonlight, this fixture includes moonlight simulation, timer, lamp life monitor, actinic supplements, diamond coated reflectors. If you want something less expensive I would either use three Nova pendants or the system 230 eco. I am unable to discuss pricing.

Why with Tropic Marin? Anyway, someone else said that you can't even get Giesmann in the US anymore-- that stinks.

Giesemann is part of a group of unique aquatic manufacturers in Germany called the Marin Group. Tropic Marin is a member of this group and so it was a practical partnership. Giesemann is still available in the US. If you can drive to Austin I can sell you a light. I can sell to people who come in the store, but it was decided that the best service and sales could be provided by knowledgable local retailers. These units are bulky and fragile, it is not so easy to ship these without a pallet to support the unit.

I appreciate you getting back with me. You are the only retailer that I have been able to communicate with about these lights so far. Neither Giesmann, nor Tropic Marin has responded to my e-mails and phone calls.

I understand what you are saying about selling these. The same thing happened to the people that used to sell Ehiem products in the States (I want to say it was Hawian Something or other). Anyway, it seems that once German items catch on in the States the big BIG Dogs step in and start peeing on the neighborhood to take over territory (just my opinion).

They have actually made it a hassle to get their products. For what it is worth- I used to be Special Projects Manager for one of the largest fish stores in the South East, ran my own maintenance co. etc. I did a lot of the special ordering for our store, dealt with sales reps etc. Ehiem and a few of the others seemed kinda snotty. I can say that since I got out of the biz (sold my company), etc.

Anyway, what you are saying is that you can no longer sell over the internet, right? Can't even discuss prices online, etc. I noticed that your website didn't even list these lights.
