Dead clown - Replacement?

I have a JBJ 24ga nano tank. Water parameters are perfect, with the exception of <10ppm nitrates.

Last night one of my Ocellaris clownfish jumped from the main tank, into chamber #3 in the back. He was sucked into the intake blades of the intake pump.

The clowns normally sleep at the top of the water column....so he probably got spooked and jumped.

So being that both clowns were purchased at the same time, and they were the same size, should I get another bigger clown this time around?

How to introduce to the tank?

//edit

And I did some research in Google....but could not find an answer: Is there a "net" or "jump guard" I can buy to prevent this from happening in the future?

I prefer a smaller clown when replacing. It's less likely you end up with two females. Bulkreefsupply carries DIY aquarium screen tops. I am sure other online stores carry something similar.

Ah....makes sense. Thanks for the tip will look into that place.

Also....instead of me starting a new thread, can I nicely ask you guys to please help me ID this clown?

I'm not sure if I have a ocellaris or percula clown. I was told by the kid at the fish store today that I cannot have both....as they will fight to the death.

So I'm looking at the Snowflake Ocellaris clownfish (designer) and am debating on spending a hundred bucks or so to replace the fish that got killed.

Can I ask you guys to please help me ID the below clownfish? The live fish store just called them a "clownfish" when I bought them, and when pressed for a more precise name, the guy didn't have an answer. So I tried....

Also, buy 1/4 netting from bulk reef supply and a window screen frame kit from home depot and make a cover for your tank. Easy and effective screen for about $20.

Oh, I shoulda mentioned that my tank lid is always on and closed.

The fish somehow jumped over the low clearance from the tank lid, into chamber #3.

I've had a couple fish get in between my glass lid and the center brace. Sometimes it just happens.

Well, considering I'm planning on spending ~$180 on a snowflake...that's not an option.

I'm going to be making a mod this week for my tank that will 100% prevent jumpers into my 3 chambers in the back.

Also...the one remaining clown....he's now buddy-buddy with the purple psuedochromis.

The purple psuedochromis dug himself a new home in the back of the tank over the past 5 days.

At night time, instead of sleeping at the top of the water column like he used to (with his buddy that died), the clown now sleeps with the pseudochromis in his hole.

Is this something? Is the clown trying to bond with the psuedochromis?

If I get a new clown....will the remaining clown reject it because he's buddy-buddy with the psuedochromis?

Literally....they take turns eating food and are hanging out together.

I don't get it...

if you're worried that they're going to become a pair and spawn - no. The answer to your last question - No.

Get another clown of same species close to same size or smaller.

You existing clown will definitely have more interest in another clown, just intro a smaller, preferably inch and quarter or so size to assure a male, and do so in a floating specimen container to make sure your existing responds in a positive way.
