Dead fish

Ok so recently yesterday I had a tailspot blenny and a tomini tang pass away but i don't know why. Right before the tang died he was gasping with his mouth open. I didn't see the tailspot die though. My water is good the only thing off was my nitrates were at 20. I recently added 3 cardinals from love aquaria but two died and now I have 1 healthy one, I figured they died cuz of shipping cuz one was floating in the bag. What could be wrong?

"the water was good" isn't good enough information. what are all your levels, also did anything previously die in the tank tha maybe caused a spike? Maybe oxygen levels, if the tang was gasping for "air"

Did you quarantine the fish when you got them? If not, it's possible that the fish had parasites that killed them and spread to other fish.

20ppm of nitrate does not affect fish at all. anything less than, say, 50ppm has no long-term effect on fish, and they can tolerate several hundred ppms of nitrate for some period of time.

what are the water parameters?
