Dead Rock: BRS vs Reef Cleaner Florida Reef Rock

Hey, everyone.

I'm debating between BRS and Reef Cleaner dead rock. Any experience with either? Preference?

Here are a little facts about both:

-both are dead rock
-both are cured before being mailed out
-Reef cleaner is priced @ 2.30 per pound
-BRS is priced @ 2.49 per pound

Let me know what you think.
 
I have both Marco rock and Brs Pukani. A little more than $ 2.49 a pound. Pukani is way better than Marco IMO. Pukani is in my display and Marco is now sump rock. Lol!
I have no experience with the Reef cleaner rock

get the best REALLY LIVE live rock that you can afford.
Tampa Bay Saltwater sells some very nice (and affordable) liverock.
 
Pukani all the way! If you're looking for really nice looking rock at a great value.

It's super light and porous, In my layout below you're looking at ~70lbs in a 120g tank

Being porous it's a better filter media than a dense rock and has more area to grow bacteria on.

I have yet to put water in this but here's my 9 pieces of Pukani. Every piece except the tall pillar is so light I can pluck them from the tank with one hand.

Edit: forgot to add... the pieces on the far right and far left... bigger than a basketball

Snorvich-according to what is posted on their site, the reefcleaner rock doesn't leach out anything; whereas the pukani will so it needs further curing once it arrives.

Btw: the rocks looks nice.
 
I just put the BRS Pukani in my 70T build. it's really nice stuff, I used my 50# of Figi from the old tank as base. It's been running for 3 weeks now and I have a beautiful pink coraline all over the Pukani. Yes I know pics please... my other half is in Europe with the camera. I also did the foam/rock wall with the Pukani, I just chisled out pieces of it to embed in the wall. Looks *****in for sure.
 
The only problem is the two weeks they recommend you let the rock cure once you've received it. The reefcleaner rock is already cured and ready for use upon arrival.

No dry rock is cured and ready to go. No amount of cleaning will eliminate all of the organic matter inside the pores of the rock. Also unless live rock ships to you fully submerged you will have some die off as well, even if the vendor claims fully cured.
 
Since I'm starting from scratch, I think I'm safe using the BRS rock for cycling. I'm also introducing Dr. Tim's One & Only Live Nitrifying Bacteria to help the cycling process.

Follow the advice of longtime successful reefkeepers ;)

What is your position on 50/50 live and pukani rock? I have about 50lbs of very aged very premium rock from my current system and I have 50 lbs of brand new pukani. I would like to use both in my new 75g.

the glass boxes we use for reef aquariums are small.

Try and bring in as much biodiversity (on/in liverock) as possible.

Biodiversity is a good thing.

More live rock the better.. But I think the rule of thumb is 80% dead and 20% live for good seeding but 50/50 is even better :)

I ordered 50 pounds of both. They are exactly the same rock IMO. If you threw them together you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
