Deal or no deal??? HELP ME

Hey guys,


Well i just bought a new 65 gallon from my LFS, and ive also been looking into nanoreefs


So the guys at the LFS (Atlantis Aquariums, Miami) had a 12 gallon Aquapod set up, its actually the exact size i was looking for.

With the stand, Live Sand, live rock, fish, feather duster and water he said he would do it all for 330 dollars, does this seem worth it? its the normal hood with the PC 27watss each on.

Please guys i need to know asap, the aquapod not set up runs about 170 so there is kind of a big difference

please get back to me asap as i wanna go finish my purchase

Generally it costs about $25 to $30 / gallon to set up a reef tank. IME that is a pretty accurate way to determine what it'll cost to set up a tank even if you do a lot of DIY. So I wouldn't call it a bargain but it's a more than fair price to pay an LFS for a tank that's already set up.

and cycled.. i say take it .. but really.. your gonna want to upgrade sooner or later... i think if you can go with the 65g. if not then ya that seems like a pretty good deal... and plus.. you dont have to wait a month for it to cycle

i say pass. half the fun of getting a new tank is picking out corals and setting it all up.

I really depends on what you want out of it and how much you are willing to spend. My sister got the 24g NC with the full stock of live stuff for $800 and I opted to go out and start one from scratch (AP 24g) and I've spent well over $1,000. I got to pick my own lighting, filter/protein skimmer and live stocks and the exp with the cycle thing, going to the airport pick-up the live sand and live rocks. I did all these work while she took the tank home and just had to add water the live stock back in.

First I thought she paid too much for her setup but after I got mine running then I realize it's expensive to start but I'd fun while setting it up.

that tank deal doesnt sound like anything special.

as for the benifit of a tank thats already cycled.... ive never cycled a nano and i have four up and running now. if you use enough cured liverock and/or cheato in a fuge, then your filtration is fully functional from day one.

of course if your new to the hobby and dont fully understand the principals behind live rock or fuges..... you shouldnt use my method

330 seems like a lot for a 12 gallon aquapod with few to no corals but thats just me. You didnt specify what fish/corals come with the tank. If it was say a purple firefish 30$, and really nice premium LR with good coraline coverage, a surface skimmer, and an upgraded pump with hydor I would say the deal was not that bad. Just depends on the setup. There are some good deals out there right now on nano's, just have to keep your eyes open.

Nano Cube 12g reg is $120; 12g dlx is $170 at drsfosterandsmith.com right now and the stand is another $60 and that's $180 right there. So basically you're paying $150 for the rest (LRs and fish) and if it looks good to you than the $330 is cheap.

I got my AP 24g for $180.

Take it, but set up the 65 too XD you will have plenty of fun w/ that one. The deal is good
